Top Lords Tips and Tricks Most Players Miss

The Top Lords tips that matter most are small rules: a 100% speed bonus halves a timer instead of removing it, unused Shimmer Coins carry over to the next Kingdom Fair, leaving an alliance mid-week costs you that week's Alliance Duel rewards, and the first buy of each Gem pack size gives double Gems. They add up fast.

None of these are hacks. They are rules written in the game text that most players skim past. Below are the ones that save the most resources, grouped by area.

Timers and speed-ups

1. A 100% speed bonus halves the timer

Speed bonuses make work faster. They do not cut a percentage off the clock. The math: new time = base time divided by (1 + bonus). A 10 hour build with a 20% bonus takes about 8 hours 20 minutes. With 100% it takes 5 hours, not zero.

2. Use speed-ups last

The bonus applies first, then alliance help, then your speed-up items. So always ask for help before you burn speed-ups, and use them on the timer that is left.

3. Save speed-ups for the right Alliance Duel day

Construction speed-ups score on Castle Expansion day, research speed-ups on Tech Research day, and training speed-ups on Soldier Training day. On Enemy Elimination day all of them count, including healing. The same item used on a quiet day gives you the time and nothing else.

Events

4. Shimmer Coins do not expire

The Kingdom Fair rules say unused Shimmer Coins carry over to the next Fair. Never spend a small balance just to use it up. Wait for an item you actually want.

5. Read the task list before you grind

Not every event rewards every kind of upgrade. Check which tasks count, then do routine work like building or training while that event is open so one action pays twice.

6. Race to Ace changes theme every four hours

If you have a stack of speed-ups or resources saved, wait for the theme that rewards them. Four hours is a short wait for a better score.

7. Cargo Ship seats are not guaranteed

In the Trade Contract queue, giving more contracts gives priority, not a seat. If you do not board, your contracts come back by mail. If you covered a shortfall with Gems, the refund comes back as Trade Contracts, not Gems. Only use Gems there if you are fine with that.

Alliance

8. Do not switch alliances mid-week

If you leave your alliance during Alliance Duel, you lose that week's victory rewards, and waiting a day does not bring them back. Joining a new alliance also limits your alliance point contribution for a day. Wait for the weekly reward mail, then move.

9. Day 6 decides close weeks

Enemy Elimination is worth 4 Duel Score, the same as two normal days. Agree on targets and defense with your leaders before it starts.

10. Play inside the Kingdom Laws

Top Lords has Kingdom Laws with brands, Wanted status and public records of violations. Breaking them can get you punished by the kingdom's leaders. Read your kingdom's rules before you attack someone outside a war.

Heroes

11. Keep universal UR shards

Use hero shards on heroes you field, but hold universal UR shards until your long-term squad is set. They are worth the most on Hero Development day in Alliance Duel too.

12. Test before you replace

A well-built hero often beats a stronger hero at low stars. Compare both in the same squad, with similar gear, against the same target. See our Top Lords tier list for who to build first.

Spending and safety

13. Double Gems on your first buy of each size

The first purchase of each Gem pack size gives double Gems. Buy each size once before you repeat any of them.

14. Gem generators do not exist

Any site or Discord bot promising free Gems for your login is trying to take your account. Real free Gems come from tasks, passes, events and official codes. Our free gems guide lists the real sources.

15. Buy inside a paid event window

Events like Spend More Get More and Spending Giveback reward packs bought while they run. If you plan to buy a pack this week, buy it then.

Squads

16. Save your squads with Lineup Presets

Lineup Presets and Lineup Restore unlock 20 days after your Kingdom opens, at Castle Lv.16 (official September 3, 2026 patch notes). Save one lineup for bosses, one for attack and one for garrison, so you can swap in seconds instead of rebuilding a squad before every fight.
