Yes, at the top end Top Lords is pay to win. Alliance Duel rewards buying packs every day, VIP buffs grow with purchases, and Kingdom Duel and Capital fights go to the strongest accounts. But a free player who plans well and joins an active alliance can still play a real part on a server. Money buys speed and top spots, not everything.

We work with big spenders and alliance leaders in 4X strategy games every day, so this is not a sales pitch for spending more. Below is where money changes the result in Top Lords, where it does not, and what each kind of player can expect.
Where money makes the biggest difference
Four systems turn spending straight into results. If you want to know how far money goes in Top Lords, start here.
Alliance Duel
Alliance Duel is the weekly VS between two alliances. On all six scoring days, buying packs is a task: every Gem's worth of packs you buy scores 30 points. Personal chest thresholds run from 40,000 up to 7,200,000 points, so heavy spenders clear chests that free players rarely see. Free tasks still matter: an Intel Task scores 10,000 points and costs stamina, not money. Full breakdown in our Alliance Duel guide.
VIP
Top Lords has 18 VIP levels, from 0 points at VIP 1 to 50,000,000 at VIP 18, and the October 28, 2026 patch added new VIP 18 perks. VIP 8 alone gives +20% Food, Wood and Coins production, +30% Construction Speed and +5% March Speed and Research Speed. Gems convert 1 to 1 into VIP points, up to 30,000 a day. Free players get VIP points from login and VIP Point items, but the upper levels are a spender's game. See the full table in Top Lords VIP levels.
Hero timing
New heroes reach a server by server day. The official September 3, 2026 patch notes put Sanada Yukimura and Saladin at day 91 after the Kingdom opens. Spenders recruit and finish a new hero in the week it arrives. Free players get there too, just weeks later, when the war it mattered for is over.
Kingdom Duel and Capital fights
Kingdom Duel is server vs server. Kingdoms collect points all week, then the leader attacks the other Capital on Saturday. Those fights are decided by squad power, healing and speed-ups, and that is where steady spending shows. More in Kingdom Duel and Capital Siege.
Where money matters less
- Stages and the runner levels. Breakout stages reward squad choice and route. Plenty of free players clear stages that spenders get stuck on.
- Planning. Saving speed-ups and Hero EXP for the right Alliance Duel day is free and moves your score more than random spending.
- Being active. Alliance help, Intel Tasks, gathering and events add up. Tap Guides puts it at 20 to 30 minutes of daily play for steady long term progress.
- Chests. Mystery Supply Chests can drop rare rewards, but they are a gamble. Spending more on them is not a plan.
What each kind of player can expect
| Player | Realistic role | Where they lose ground |
|---|---|---|
| Free to play | Active member, gathers and scores free duel tasks, fills rallies | New heroes arrive late, low VIP, weak in Saturday fights |
| Light spender (Monthly Pass and event packs) | Solid member who carries a share of duel points | Upper VIP levels, top chest tiers |
| Steady spender (planned monthly budget) | Officer level account, rally joiner in Kingdom Duel | The top 1 or 2 accounts on the server |
| Heavy spender | Rally leader, Capital fights, top duel ranks | Mostly time and coordination, not money |
What it costs to be competitive
There is no fixed price list for VIP levels, but you can work out a ceiling. The 99.99 tier in the Gem store gives 10,000 Gems, and Gems convert 1 to 1 into VIP points. Buying Gems only and converting them, VIP 8 (50,000 points) is about five 99.99 Gem packs and VIP 12 (500,000 points) is about fifty. Daily VIP gifts, VIP Point items and double Gems on each first purchase bring the real number down.
The bigger point: in Top Lords the same budget can buy very different results. A pack bought on an Alliance Duel day inside a top-up window scores duel points and event rewards on top of what is in it. The same pack bought on a quiet Sunday, when no duel day is scoring, does not. Our Top Lords spending guide lays out the calendar.

How serious spenders keep the cost under control
- Set a monthly budget. Decide it at the start of the month, not during a fight.
- Buy each Gem pack size once first. The first purchase of each size gives double Gems.
- Spend on scoring days. Alliance Duel days and top-up windows make the same pack worth more.
- Skip instant finishes and chests. They burn Gems without moving your account much.
- Pay less per pack. Packsify buys the same packs through the official App Store or Google Play, for about 10 to 13% more pack value. Check which packs are worth it before you choose.
Spending on packs anyway?
Then make the same budget go further. Packsify buys the Top Lords packs you pick through the official App Store or Google Play, with about 10 to 13% more pack value for the same budget. You see your exact price before you pay, and every step in the app. Packsify has done this since 2021, with a 0 bans record and 4.9 on Trustpilot.
“This is a great app and amazing service… Never had an issue… Non issues with being banned at all, I have been using it for years now.”
