For Top Lords players who lose more soldiers than they expect, and for leaders before Kingdom Duel. Checked October 31, 2026.
Short answer: A Top Lords battle report splits losses into four columns: Killed (gone), Ward (healing in your Ward Tent), Lightly Injured (back when the march returns) and Survived. Soldiers die even with zero Killed when your Ward Tent is full, because overflow wounded die. Keep Ward Tent space free before Kingdom Duel.
Falcon OP, one of the most active Top Lords creators, lost 1,410 soldiers in one failed defense. His report showed zero Killed. The real damage was in the fine print: Ward Tent capacity exceeded, 1,371 extra injured soldiers died.
His battle report video uses that defeat to explain the system. Here is what it teaches, in short.
The four columns
| Column | What it means | When they fight again |
|---|---|---|
| Survived | Soldiers still standing | Right away, next battle |
| Lightly Injured | Hurt, but walk home with the march | After the march returns |
| Ward | Wounded, sent to your Ward Tent | After they heal, if there is room |
| Killed | Dead | Never |
The total minus number on a report is all four columns added up. It is not a body count. In Falcon OP's example, the attacker lost 441 in total but only 88 were Killed. Falcon OP lost 1,410 with zero Killed: 556 Lightly Injured and 854 to the Ward.
The two notes under the table
This is where real losses hide.
- Defeated castle: a defender who loses also loses Drill Ground soldiers after the fight. In Falcon OP's case, 290. Those losses add to the attacker's kill points in Kingdom Duel.
- Ward Tent capacity exceeded: when the Ward Tent is full, new wounded do not wait. They die. That cost Falcon OP 1,371 soldiers.
Since the October 28, 2026 patch, Soldier Capacity is called Drill Ground Capacity in the game, per the official patch notes.
Attacker vs defender losses
Falcon OP gives rough loss splits from his experience:
| Situation | Ward | Killed |
|---|---|---|
| Attacking a castle on the map | about 60% | about 0% |
| Attacking at a structure (contested point) | about 60% | about 20% |
| Defending | varies | about 0% |
These are his numbers, not official ones. The lesson still holds: at a structure, whoever gets there first defends, and the late player pays the attacker's losses for the same points. Smaller players should enter early.
Squad size and the level 1 hero trick
Soldiers run from level 1 to level 10. A squad needs its full soldier count to fight at its shown strength, and that count is the sum of your heroes' capacities, which grows as heroes level up. Mixing low-tier soldiers into a high-tier squad makes it weaker than the number on screen.
Falcon OP keeps one level 1 hero (an SR is fine) for low-cost one-hero marches: starting rallies, tagging monsters, tapping objectives and scouting, without risking a real squad.
Read your own report in three steps
- Look at Killed first. That is the only permanent loss inside the table.
- Read the notes under the table. A defeated castle or a full Ward Tent adds losses that the columns do not show.
- Check your Ward Tent right after. If it is close to full, heal or clear it before the next fight.
How to protect your Ward Tent
- Raise capacity: upgrade the Ward Tent building and research the Ward Tent expansion nodes.
- Heal faster: Quick Bandaging research, workers that cut healing time, and alliance help on every heal.
- Know Senior Medic: per Falcon OP, it raises healing batch size, not speed.
- Empty the Ward Tent before Kingdom Duel week. A full hospital in war week hands kills to the enemy.
When troop storage is full
If you hit your troop cap, barracks stop training, and that stalls training event points. Falcon OP lists three ways to lower your count: a deliberate defeat on a map target you cannot beat, sending wounded while the Ward Tent is full, or a planned castle burn. All three cost soldiers on purpose. Do it in peace time, with a plan, never in war week.
For spenders and alliance leaders
Spenders: soldiers cost resources and training time, so every soldier lost to overflow is paid twice. Before you buy training speed-ups for an event, make sure your Ward Tent has room. Healing speed-ups and Ward Tent upgrades protect what you already paid for.
Leaders: add a "Ward Tent check" to your Kingdom Duel prep. Ask members on Friday to clear their hospitals and shield if they will be offline. Read our Kingdom Duel guide and the alliance leader page.
