For R4s and R5s choosing a zone for Doomsday Season 4, and for members planning their war hound. Checked October 31, 2026.
Short answer: Doomsday Season 4, Azure Ark, splits alliances into an Apex zone for the top 20 registered alliances by might and common zones of 40 alliances. Apex pays more at the top, but a low Apex finish can give less than a strong common finish. Build one strong war hound, because part levels reset at season end.

Season 4 of Doomsday Expedition is called Azure Ark. The patch notes first teased it in August, and the official creator preview explained how it works. The biggest decision comes before the season starts: should your alliance register for the Apex zone or stay in a common zone? The second is how to build your war hound without wasting materials. The official start date was not announced when we checked, so watch the in-game Doomsday page for registration.
Apex zone vs common zone
| Apex zone | Common zone | |
|---|---|---|
| Who | Top 20 registered alliances by might, drawn from the top 200 | Everyone else |
| Map size | 20 alliances | 40 alliances |
| Rewards | Higher, plus an Azure Planet upgrade card for qualifying | About 50% fewer than Apex |
| Risk | Strong rivals on every side | More room to finish high |
If fewer than 10 alliances register for Apex, the Apex zone is cancelled. That is worth knowing if your alliance is on the edge of the top 20.
Which zone should your alliance pick?
Apex looks like the obvious choice, but it is not always the better one. The creator preview points out that an alliance finishing near the bottom of Apex can get less than an alliance finishing near the top of a common zone. Before you register, ask three honest questions:
- Can we hold settlements against the top 20 alliances, or only against the top 5 in a common zone?
- Do we care more about the chronicle rewards or the kill points?
- Will our members stay active for the full season if we keep losing fights?
If the answer to the first question is no, a strong common-zone finish is usually the smarter play.
Settlements and mountain passes
The map has nine settlement tiers: camps, communities and city-states, each in small, medium and large. New mountain passes have to be occupied before you can move through them, so plan your route and assign members to take passes early. An alliance stuck behind a pass loses days. Match your targets to your strength: a large city-state is a bigger prize, but holding a smaller settlement for the whole season can be worth more than losing a big one twice.
War hound parts explained
- Each war hound has six part slots. They unlock at war hound levels 5, 10 and 15.
- Parts belong to one war hound. They are not shared across your account.
- Part levels, raised with steel, reset when the season ends.
- Star promotions on parts are permanent.
- Your warehouse has a capacity cap, so do not hoard parts you will not use.
The takeaway: build one strong war hound, not several weak ones. Spend steel on the hound you use, and think of star promotions as the long-term investment because they stay.
Season 4 checklist for leaders
- Check your alliance might rank against the top 200 before registration.
- Decide Apex or common as a leadership team, then explain the choice to members.
- Name pass takers for the new mountain passes.
- Name settlement captains for each tier you plan to hold.
- Tell members to build one war hound and to keep part slots in mind at levels 5, 10 and 15.
- Remind everyone that steel levels reset at season end, so spend steel on the hound you use now.
- Track chronicle progress and kill points weekly, and change targets if one is falling behind.
The Azure Planet sanctuary skin
The September patch notes added Sanctuary Skin upgrades with Upgrade Cards, and made the Azure Planet skin available after Doomsday settlement. So far, Azure Planet is the only skin that can be upgraded. The Apex qualification reward includes an Azure Planet upgrade card, which is one more reason top alliances push for Apex.
For spenders and alliance leaders
- Decide the zone early. Register for Apex only if you can compete, and tell members why you chose either way.
- Steel resets, stars do not. If you spend, put more into star promotions than into part levels you lose at season end.
- One hound. Spenders gain most from one fully built war hound.
- Buy before settlement fights. Healing and speed-ups do the most right before your alliance hits a settlement.
- Leaders: assign pass takers and settlement captains before the season opens. See our alliance leader guide.
