For Game of Thrones: Dragonfire players deciding whether to pour relics into Vermithor, and for alliance leaders building frontline armies. Checked October 2026.
Short answer: Vermithor is a Legendary Champion in Game of Thrones: Dragonfire that you claim when you enter the Shadow of the Greens campaign. He is a defensive frontline anchor who protects weak allies and cuts damage from Warriors and Hunters. He is worth it for high and some mid spenders who can raise his Star Rank, less so for light spenders.

Vermithor, the Bronze Fury, is one of the best known dragons from House of the Dragon, and "Is Vermithor worth it?" is a question players keep asking. The creator ThexppMobile made a whole video on it. The answer depends on your budget and on what your army is missing.
Below: what the official guide says he does, what one creator found in testing, and who should invest.
How to get Vermithor
The official Vermithor guide (July 30 2026) says he is only available to claim when you enter the Shadow of the Greens campaign. Claiming him is the easy part. His power, like every dragon's, depends on his Star Rank and the Dragon Relics you collect for him (A Guide to Dragons). Relics come from Dragon Chests, which open with Dragonbone, Dragonglass or Dragonfire Keys.
Breed and role
Vermithor is a Champion. In the official breed table, Champions are Suppressors with mixed damage of all types. The Vermithor guide calls him a defensive frontline anchor that soaks pressure and protects struggling allies, with some Physical and Tactical damage on top.
His command: Bronze Fury
| When | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rounds 2, 4, 6 and 8 | Deals Physical and Tactical damage to 2 adjacent enemies |
| Odd rounds | Chance to apply Protect for 2 rounds to the adjacent ally with the fewest troops. Protect splits the damage that ally takes from Commands and Habits between the ally and Vermithor |
The official guide does not give the Protect chance. The creator ThexppMobile puts it at 30% in his video.
His five Habits
| Habit | What it does |
|---|---|
| Noble Sacrifice | Start of round 1: raises his own Tactical damage taken, but cuts the Physical damage of one enemy (Warriors first) and the Fire damage of one enemy (Hunters first) for 5 rounds |
| Nimble Resilience | Start of combat: lowers his damage taken and raises his Initiative for the whole fight |
| Bronze Bulwark | Raises his Physical and Tactical damage and his chance to Protect. When he Protects, he also takes less Physical and Fire damage for 2 rounds |
| Fury's Poise | Start of combat: less Physical damage taken for each enemy Warrior, less Fire damage taken for each enemy Hunter |
| Vengeful Fury | Once per combat, below 50% troop capacity: hits the enemy with the lowest Instincts with Physical damage and the enemy with the lowest Intelligence with Tactical damage |
Affinities
| Troop type | Affinity |
|---|---|
| Spears | Positive |
| Shields | Positive |
| Cavalry, Archers, Siege | Neutral |
Positive affinity raises combat stats and siege damage for that troop type, so pair him with Spearmen and Shieldbearers.
What he is good at
- Against Warriors and Hunters. Noble Sacrifice and Fury's Poise both cut their output. If your server's top armies lean on Physical or Fire damage, he shines.
- Long fights. The official guide says his mitigation, suppression and mixed damage get more valuable as the battle goes on.
- Keeping a weak ally alive. Protect moves damage off the ally with the fewest troops and onto him.
The official guide does not name dragons to pair him with. It says he does best in armies with a durable partner that can use the breathing room he creates, especially against teams built on Physical or Fire damage.
What testing showed
In his video "Is VERMITHOR Worth It?", ThexppMobile tested Vermithor in a team with Caraxes and Vildrak. His findings, in short:
- Vermithor works best as an upgrade over Syrax in that kind of team, not as a damage dealer.
- Caraxes hits about as hard as a maxed Moondancer but lacks partners that combo with him, which is where a protector like Vermithor helps.
- Malachite, released in late October, is a universal support with healing and buffs that fits most teams.
These are one creator's test results, not official numbers. They match the official description though: Vermithor keeps the army standing so your damage dealers can work.
Who should invest
| Player | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Biggest spenders | Yes | They can raise his Star Rank fast, and his value grows with it (ThexppMobile) |
| Mid spenders | Some, yes | Worth it if your army lacks a frontline protector and you face Warrior or Hunter heavy enemies |
| Light spenders and free players | No, not yet | ThexppMobile says no for low spenders. Claim him, but put relics where your army needs them most |
Before you commit relics
- Check what your enemies run. If the top armies on your server use Warriors and Hunters, Vermithor's Habits pay off more.
- Check your troops. He has positive affinity with Spears and Shields. If your army is mostly Cavalry, he gets less out of it.
- Remember what carries over. Star Rank and Habits stay between Reigns (campaign guide). Relics you put in now still count next Reign.
- Compare with the newest dragons. See our new dragons guide for Meleys, Kalspire, Venator and Malachite before you decide.
For spenders and alliance leaders
- Spend on Star Rank, not on short boosts. Star Rank and Habits carry over between Reigns, so relics for a dragon you will keep are long-term value.
- Time key purchases to the start of a Reign. Reign Level resets each Reign, but a higher Star Rank gives you a stronger start from day one.
- Leaders: one or two Vermithor players in a group make your frontline harder to break, especially against Physical or Fire heavy armies. Ask who already has him at a high Star Rank before a big push.
- More leader tools are on our alliance leaders page.
