For new Sea of Conquest captains, and for spenders starting on a fresh server who want to spend right from day one. Checked October 2026.
Short answer: In Sea of Conquest, finish the story quests, get your first extra ship before pushing the Flagship, and join a Gang right away for 100 Emeralds. Use the free daily recruit, park far from ports when you log off, and plan routes around sea monsters. Build one strong fleet before chasing every hero.

The first week decides how fast your account grows. Most early losses come from three things: sinking because you parked badly, spreading resources over too many heroes, and upgrading the Flagship before the rest of the fleet can keep up. This guide covers what to do in order.
Your first hours
You start as Henry Hells, a captain on the run from the UMC (United Merchant Company). The prologue teaches real-time sailing and port visits. After you gain allies, a giant whirlpool pulls you into the open sea (Pocket Gamer).
- You are protected until about level 5. Other players cannot target you. Use that time to collect resources and follow the questline.
- Jango is your first captain. The story gives him to you for your first extra ship.
- Do not rush the Flagship. Get your first additional ship before you push the Flagship to its next threshold.
Ships, crew and the three things that keep you alive
You field a Flagship plus up to five more ships. The Flagship is the only ship you upgrade like a base, and it takes most of the enemy fire. Our Flagship formation guide goes deeper.
Heroes crew your ships as captain, first mate or gunner. A hero marked for a role gets an extra stat boost in it (Pocket Gamer ships).
| What | Why it matters | How to refill |
|---|---|---|
| Sailors (crew) | They are your ship's health. Lose too many and you sink | At port |
| Supplies | Low supplies drop morale and sailors start to leave | At port, or cook meals in the Galley |
| Morale | Low morale cuts speed and battle power | Keep supplies up |
Tip: tap the depart icon above the jetty to refill sailors and supplies, even if you are not leaving (Pocket Gamer tips).
The artifacts that save the most time
| Artifact | What it does |
|---|---|
| Golden Compass | Finds buried treasure once you have a treasure map for the area. Each new port has a gold icon where you can use it, usually for a free treasure map |
| Storm Horn | Speeds up your ship while sailing |
| Sea Soul Mirror | One free hero pull every day |
| Eye of the Sea | Teleports you to your Gang's Turf or a Gang member once every 5 hours |
| Hourglass of Time | A free 2-hour build speed-up every 2 hours |
The last two unlock a few hours in. Use the Hourglass every time it is ready. It is free build time.
Ten tips that stop early losses
- Park far from ports. Logged-out ships can be attacked. Open ocean is safer.
- Join a Gang now. Your first sign-up gives 100 Emeralds, plus a shared stash and donation rewards.
- Use the magnifying glass. The icon in the bottom left finds the nearest armed freighter or merchant ship, and ships your quests need.
- Plot routes around sea monsters. Auto routes often sail into them and badly damage a young ship.
- Avoid crowded waters. Players who hunt new accounts gather in built-up areas.
- Trade the goods you find. Rice and other goods from treasure map quests can sell for up to 10k gold early on. Hold space is the limit.
- Keep your trade groups friendly. Reputation with a trade group gives rewards, as long as you do not attack its merchant ships.
- Cook new recipes once. The first cook of each recipe gives Emeralds. See our recipes guide.
- Run Trials. These PvE fights give Emeralds, speed-ups and Adventurer XP. Adventurer Level unlocks new missions and story chapters.
- Redeem codes. Several current codes give a free Echo Conch each. See our codes list.
Heroes: build few, build deep
New players pull on everything and end up with ten heroes at low star ranks. Pick one Flagship core and one damage type, and feed those. Story heroes like Jango and Henry Hell sit in the bottom tiers of the October 2026 Pocket Gamer tier list, so do not put real resources into them after the first weeks. Our hero tier list shows who to build.
For spenders and Gang leaders
- Spend early on growth, not on power spikes. Packs with build speed-ups and Flagship materials pay back the whole season. Offers like Growth Fund include Emeralds (GamingonPhone).
- Pick your first target hero before your first Hymn Conch pack. Paid packs are the main Hymn Conch source, so a plan matters more than the size of the pack.
- Join the strongest active Gang you can. Teleports, turf and Showdown rewards all run through the Gang.
- Leaders on a new server: recruit early, send new members this guide, and set a parking rule before the first big fights. See our alliance leader page.
