For Last War players choosing a profession, and for R4 and R5 leaders who want the right mix of Engineers and War Leaders. Checked October 31, 2026.
Short answer: Pick Engineer in Last War if you want to grow fast and help allies. Its skills give free build and research speed-ups, cut resource costs by up to 5%, and support allies with shields, hospital space and build boosts. A community guide for Season 6 advises starting as Engineer unless you have a War Leader buddy.
Professions open in the season and stay with you for every season after. Most guides cover the War Leader, because it hits hard. The Engineer gets less attention, but it is the profession that quietly saves the most time and resources.
This guide shows how professions work, the Engineer skills worth points, the Season 6 extras, and how leaders can use Engineers well.
How professions work
Per lastwartutorial, professions open from Season 1 in the Profession Hall. You pick Engineer or War Leader on your first visit.
- Profession EXP comes from killing monsters, capturing cities and upgrading season buildings. Season buildings give the most.
- Each level gives a skill point. New skills open every 5 levels.
- Switching needs a Profession Change Certificate. It resets your profession and refunds all points. A Profession Skill Reset Book resets skills only. Both come from the Season Battle Pass.
- Extra EXP above the cap is stored and mailed at the start of the next season.
Engineer vs War Leader
The cpt-hedge Season 6 guide gives a clear rule: start as Engineer unless you have a win-win buddy. The Engineer's Resource-Saving skill cuts building costs on every upgrade, and over a season of season building upgrades that adds up. If an Engineer friend gives you the buff daily, you can stay War Leader early and still get the savings.
The Engineer skills worth points
These are the core Engineer skills from lastwartutorial. The guide was last updated in March 2025, so some numbers may have moved. Check the skill screen in your game.
| Level | Skill | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rapid Production | Instantly gives 4 to 20 hours of Food, Iron and Coin production, 24h cooldown |
| 10 | Build for Free / Research for Free | Free construction or research speed-up, higher each level |
| 15 | Build Now / Research Now | Cuts a build by 120 to 600 minutes, or research by 240 to 1,200 minutes, 48h cooldown |
| 20 | Rally Rush | Rally joining and returning march speed +10% to +50% |
| 25 | Friendly Aid | Fewer Drill Ground casualties when you reinforce an ally, 5% to 25% |
| 30 | Cooperative Construction / Research | +10% or +20% build or research speed for you and one ally for 60 minutes, 24h cooldown |
| 35 | Resource-Saving / Recycling | Construction or research Food, Iron and Coin cost down 1% to 5% |
| 40 | Medical Aid | Your and an ally's hospital capacity up for 240 minutes, 72h cooldown |
| 40 | Friendly Shield | A 1, 2 or 4 hour shield for you or an ally, 72h cooldown |
| 50 | Landmine | Attackers who hit a landmine lose 10% of troops |
One tip from the guide's comments, confirmed by the author: Cooperative Construction and Research only count if you turn them on before you start the build or research. They do nothing for work already running.
A simple skill order
- Rapid Production and Build for Free first. They pay off from day one.
- Build Now and Research Now. Big time cuts on long upgrades.
- Resource-Saving and Recycling. This is the reason to be an Engineer. Max them as soon as they open.
- Cooperative skills and Medical Aid. Your alliance feels these.
- Friendly Shield and Landmine once the growth skills are done.
Season 6 extras
Seasons add their own skill tree. The cpt-hedge guide lists 21 Season 6 skills and one Engineer-only skill:
- Buddy Fortify (level 90, 1 point): adds 100 Fortified Durability to an ally's wall, up to 10 times per ally per day. It restores 1 use per hour, up to 20 stored.
Its top picks for everyone are Building Inspiration, Free Advanced Teleport, Extra War Merit and Golden Bait. Season skills reset at season end and the points come back.
For spenders and alliance leaders
For spenders, Engineer makes every building and research upgrade cost a little less. If you buy resources or speed-ups, an Engineer gets more out of each one. The free speed-ups from Build for Free, Research for Free, Build Now and Research Now are worth the most on long upgrades, so save them for big HQ and research steps.
For leaders, a good mix matters more than one perfect profession:
- Pair Engineers with War Leaders. The win-win buddy setup lets War Leaders still get the Engineer buff each day.
- Use Medical Aid before big fights. More hospital space for you and an ally means fewer dead troops in Desert Storm or city fights.
- Plan Friendly Shield. A 4 hour shield on a member who is about to be hit can save a lot of troops.
- Engineers on Buddy Fortify in Season 6. Assign who tops up whose wall before a city fight.
- Watch Season 7. The Rescue System in the new Desert Storm gives points for healing teammates, per a community preview. Support roles may count for more.
