Last War Carlie vs Murphy: Which Is Better? (2026)

For Last War players deciding which UR defender to build before Season 7, and for leaders planning squad roles. Checked October 31, 2026.

Short answer: Pick by squad type. Carlie is the UR defender for Aircraft squads and cuts energy damage. Murphy is the UR defender for Tank squads and cuts damage for the front row, and at Ironclad Barrier level 4 he covers the whole team. Both are listed as Season 7 Hero Awakenings, so build the one your main squad uses.

Carlie or Murphy is one of the most asked Last War questions this month. A LORD SHOCKA video on it passed 21,000 views in two weeks. The reason is simple: both heroes are expected to get Awakening in Season 7, and nobody wants to put shards into the wrong one.

The good news: neither is a waste. Both are UR heroes with a march size of 350 and the same expertise skill. The choice comes down to which squad you run and what kind of damage hurts you most. If energy damage dealers keep beating you, that points one way. If your Tank squad keeps losing its front row, that points the other.

On raw stats they are close. Carlie has a bit more HP, Murphy a bit more attack. The real difference is in the skills.

Carlie's skills

• Dual-string Rocket (auto attack): physical damage equal to 309.32% of Attack.
• Energy Adaption (passive): cuts energy damage taken by 40%, plus 4% per star upgrade.
• Inferno Blaze (tactic, 10s): hits all enemies for 183.26% of Attack and lowers their energy damage by 15% for 5 seconds.
• Super Sensing (expertise): +20% HP, Attack and Defense, +10% skill cooldown rate.

Carlie is built to shrug off energy damage, both by taking less herself and by weakening the enemy's energy hits for a few seconds.

Murphy's skills

• Cannon Fire (auto attack): physical damage equal to 490.99% of Attack.
• Stand Firm (passive): front row units take 17% less damage, plus 3% per star level.
• Ironclad Barrier (tactic, 10s): front row physical damage reduction +29% for 5 seconds. Higher levels stretch it to 8 seconds, and at level 4 it covers the whole team.
• Super Sensing (expertise): +20% HP, Attack and Defense, +10% skill cooldown rate.

Murphy protects others more than himself. His value grows with stars, and Ironclad Barrier level 4 is where he turns into a whole-team defender. Lastwarguide.org pairs him with Carlie, Adam or Williams.

Season 7 Awakening

For spenders and alliance leaders

For spenders, the timing matters more than the pick. If Season 7 Awakening works like Season 6, the first weeks after release are when shard offers matter most. A simple plan:

1. Decide your main squad now. Tank or Aircraft. That decides Murphy or Carlie.
2. Get the hero to the stars you need before Awakening. Murphy's whole-team cover needs Ironclad Barrier level 4.
3. Hold some budget for Awakening shards. Wait for the official details, then buy.
4. Do not split shards. One fully built defender beats two half-built ones.

For leaders: rally leads and garrison players need tough defenders. Ask your top members which squad type they run, then make sure each one has the matching defender built before Season 7 city fights. A Tank-heavy alliance wants Murphy on its main garrisons.
