Evony Wall and Defense Generals Guide (2026)

For Evony players setting up a defense keep, and for leaders who need strong walls in their alliance. Checked October 31, 2026.

Short answer: Pick your Evony wall general by your keep's main troop type. Ground defense leans on HP, while ranged, siege and mounted defense lean on attack. Names that top community defense lists in 2026 include Francis I (ground), Visconti (ranged), Shapur I (siege) and Henry IV (mounted). Gear and refines on that one general matter more than collecting many.

Your wall general is the general who leads your keep's defense when someone attacks. Most players spend months on their attack generals and give the wall whoever is left. That is a mistake, because the wall is what keeps your troops alive while you sleep.

Step 1: match the general to your keep

The first rule: choose your defense general by your keep's dominant troop type. A strong ranged defender will not help much if the enemy hits you with a strong ground march and your keep is mostly ground.

• Ground defense leans on a large ground troop HP buff, which makes the wall very durable.
• Ranged and siege defense lean on attack, hitting attackers from a safe distance.
• Mounted defense leans on attack too, so your cavalry can charge in fast.

Step 2: the top names per troop type

Community defense lists change often, so treat any ranking as a starting point. The names that come up at the top in 2026:

• Ground: Francis I of France, Gao Changgong, Zhang Fei
• Ranged: Visconti, Ahmose I
• Siege: Shapur I, Francis Drake
• Mounted: Henry IV, Rostam

If you do not own the top pick, a general you already built for the same troop type is often the better choice today.

Step 3: build one wall general properly

1. Ascend and level. A half-built top general loses to a fully built mid-list one.
2. Skill books. Add books that boost your keep's troop type.
3. Gear for flat stats. Flat HP and attack refines on the wall general help a lot, especially if your wall has many low-tier troops. Our T1 trap guide explains why flat HP matters most on a T1 wall.
4. Wall dragon. If you have one, refine it the same way.

The new wall general creators are talking about

In October 2026 one creator's video called a new defense general "Evony's new F2P super wall general" and named her Queen Tamar. We could not confirm the spelling or her stats from an official source. What the video describes:

• She can be raised with exclusive general fragments, not only ascension fragments.
• The creator bought one copy for around 100 USD and plans to raise her with those fragments.
• She gives flat attack buffs for all troop types.
• The creator sees her as a fit for T1 trap keeps.

If that holds, she could suit players who do not want to buy a new wall general every few months. Wait for the general card in your own game before you spend on her, and compare her with the general you already built.

Common wall mistakes

• Using your best attack general on the wall, then leaving the wall empty when you march.
• Building a ranged wall general while most of your keep is ground.
• Spreading refines over four troop types instead of one.

For spenders and alliance leaders

A wall general is a long-term buy. You use the same one for months, so it is one of the better places to put money if you defend a lot.

1. Finish one before you start another. Ascension fragments and gear on one wall general beat two half-built ones.
2. Watch historic general packs during events. Many defense generals show up in event packs. Our historic general packs guide explains which ones give the most.
3. Hold off on Queen Tamar until her card is in your game. Compare her flat attack for all troop types with the refines already on your wall general before you buy fragments.

For leaders: know who in your alliance has a real wall. Before Server War or a battlefield, list your strongest defenders by troop type and place them where attacks are most likely.
