For Evony players saving for a Historic General, and leaders planning what to build around. Checked October 2026.
Short answer: Historic General packs sell fragments for a named general. Pack sizes and prices show in the in-game shop, and they can change by event, so read the pack screen. Work out the cost per fragment for each size, pick the general first, and buy before the battle you need them for. Check free fragment events before you spend.

A Historic General is a named commander you collect and raise with fragments. Packs that sell fragments come in different sizes, and the rate you pay is not always the same from one size to the next.
We could not confirm current October packs, so this guide gives you the method. Pack prices show in the in-game shop. Please check the numbers on your own screen, and tell us in the Discord if something looks wrong.
How the packs work
A fragment pack gives you a set number of fragments for a set price. Bigger packs often give more fragments, but not always at a better rate. Some packs have limits, such as once a day or once a week. Some are tied to an event window. The pack screen shows all of this, so read it before you tap buy.
Work out the cost per fragment
Keep a note of the best rate you have seen, so you can tell a good pack from an ordinary one the next time an event brings a new offer.
This takes ten seconds. Divide the price by the number of fragments. Do it for every size you can see. The lowest number is the best rate.
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1 | Write down the price and the fragments for each pack |
| 2 | Divide price by fragments |
| 3 | Check for a purchase limit and a reset time |
| 4 | Pick the pack with the best rate that you can actually use |
Here is an example with made-up numbers, only to show the math. A pack at 10 USD with 5 fragments costs 2 USD per fragment. A pack at 50 USD with 20 fragments costs 2.50 USD per fragment. The bigger pack is worse, even though it gives more. Real packs can look like this too, which is why you do the math.
How to think about fragments
A fragment is only worth something if it gets you to the next star of a general you will use. Before you buy, answer three questions:
- How many fragments do I have, and how many does the next step need?
- Will this general be in my main march, or is it a collection piece?
- Is a free route coming soon, such as an event that gives fragments?
If the answer to the last question is yes, wait. You will need fewer packs if an event covers part of the gap.
Which generals are worth it?
We cannot verify a current top list. Constantine XI and Cleopatra VII are recent generals, and RedEvony, a Packsify creator partner, has made videos on both: Constantine XI - A Very Solid Mounted General and My Apology to the New Champion - Cleopatra VII. We know the titles only, so watch them for his view.
For older general picks, read our ground generals tier list and best PvP generals. They are older, so treat the picks as a starting point.
Common mistakes
- Buying the biggest pack because it feels like the best deal, without doing the division.
- Spreading fragments across three generals and finishing none.
- Buying a pack the day before an event that gives the same fragments free.
- Missing a purchase limit and planning for more packs than you can buy.
Before you buy
- Open the pack screen and count the fragments yourself.
- Compare cost per fragment across the sizes you can see.
- Check whether the same fragments are in an event this week.
- Decide the general first, then the pack.
For spenders and alliance leaders
What to buy, or save, before the next event. Pick one general and finish them. Half-built generals help less than one finished general. If you are saving for BoC or SvS, check which generals your rally leaders use, and build the ones the alliance needs.
What to tell the alliance. Tell members which generals the alliance needs most. Spenders will follow a clear ask better than a vague hint. Do not push specific purchases. Name the general, not the pack.
Timing. Buy after you have checked this week's events for free fragments, and before the battle you want the general for. See the spending plan by budget for how this fits a monthly budget.
Leaders, see the alliance leader page.
