For Dark War Survival players who want strong heroes without wasting tickets, fragments or Rubies. Checked October 2026.
Short answer: Dark War Survival heroes come from four places: the Radio Station with Prime Recruit Tickets, Radar mission fragments, hero events like Lucky Chest and Goodie Bazaar, and packs. The fastest strong hero is Guy, from the first top-up pack for about 1 USD. Build three to five heroes from one faction, not a wide roster.

Heroes decide most fights in Dark War Survival. Getting them is half the job. The other half is knowing which ones to keep building.
Below: every source of heroes, how they compare, which heroes to build first, and how spenders should plan hero events.
Where heroes come from
| Source | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Story and tutorial | Free heroes like Skai, Edi, Scarlett and Cecilia | Clearing early stages |
| Radio Station | Recruits with Prime Recruit Tickets from missions and progress | Steady pulls, low odds for top heroes |
| Radar missions | Hero fragments, daily | Slow, free progress |
| First top-up pack | Guy, S tier, about 1 USD | Every account |
| Hero Code pack | A long-term hero buy, per Pocket Gamer | Players who spend early |
| Hero events | Shards for event heroes, like Tristan and Margaret in Goodie Bazaar | Top heroes for a built account |
Free heroes, the Radio Station and Radar fragments come from BlueStacks. Guy and the Hero Code pack come from Pocket Gamer, which also says you probably will not get a Legendary hero early without the first hero pack.
Which heroes to build first
The Pocket Gamer tier list (updated October 16, 2026) puts Guy, Corleone, Megan, Layla, Catherine and Rex, Quinn, Catherine, Lucas, Katrina, Darian and Lan in S tier. Most tutorial heroes sit in C tier. For our full ranking by army-wide impact, see the hero tier list.
- Guy first. About 1 USD, S tier, and he carries Adventure Mode.
- Pick a faction. Fighter, Shooter or Rider. Heroes and troops from the same faction work together.
- Economy heroes count. Megan helps construction. Level her passive even if she rarely fights.
- Stop feeding filler. Once a better hero arrives in the same slot, move your materials.
How to use Radio Station recruits
- Save Prime Recruit Tickets for Alliance Duel hero days, where recruiting can score points.
- Do not chase a hero you cannot finish. Fragments spread across many heroes build none of them.
- Check for new tickets in mission rewards after each chapter.
How to plan a hero event
- Decide the target hero before the event opens.
- Check that it fits your faction and lineup. See the formation guide.
- Have your Rubies ready on day one, while shard targets are still in reach.
- Finish the hero, or do not start. Half a hero is wasted spend.
After you get the hero
Getting a hero is step one. Levels, skills and gear make them strong. The Watchtower caps hero level, so keep it moving. Read the hero leveling guide and the skill book cost guide next.
Free path vs paid path
A free player can build a strong core from the Radio Station, Radar fragments and free event currency. It takes longer, so picking the right faction early matters even more. A spender gets Guy on day one, adds the Hero Code pack, and finishes event heroes inside the window. Both paths end at the same place: three to five heroes from one faction, fully built.
Common hero mistakes
- Pulling for every new hero. New heroes have high ceilings, but a one-star new hero rarely beats a fully built older one.
- Mixing factions. Hero passives that buff one troop type do nothing for the others.
- Forgetting the Watchtower. A strong hero still stops at the Watchtower level cap.
- Leaving tutorial heroes in the lineup. Pocket Gamer puts most of them in C tier. Swap them out as soon as you can.
Avoid these and every ticket, fragment and Ruby goes into heroes that stay in your lineup for months.
One more habit helps: before any hero event, write down your faction, your current five, and the one hero that would replace the weakest slot. If the event hero is not that hero, skip it and save.
For spenders and alliance leaders
- Fund one event hero at a time. A finished Tristan or Margaret changes a lineup. Two half-built heroes do not.
- Rally leaders first. If your alliance has a few spenders, their heroes lead the rallies. Fund those accounts first.
- Leaders: agree which event heroes the alliance needs before each hero event, so spenders do not all chase the same one. The alliance leader guide covers the weekly routine.
