Where Winds Meet Mystic Skills Guide (which to unlock first and where the upgrade investment goes)

June 25, 2026

For Where Winds Meet players who want to know which Mystic Skills to prioritize, how the upgrade system works, and where the investment actually matters for serious PvP and co-op performance.

Where Winds Meet Mystic Skills Guide (which to unlock first and where the upgrade investment goes)

Mystic Skills in Where Winds Meet are separate from your weapon martial arts and not tied to any specific weapon type. You equip them alongside your chosen build, use them in combat and exploration, and upgrade them through a Tier and Rank system that requires its own sustained material investment.

For serious players, Mystic Skills are not optional. The combat ceiling on PvP and co-op boss content depends as much on which skills you have, how far you have upgraded them, and how you slot them as it does on weapon Inner Ways investment. Two players with identical weapon builds and different Mystic Skill setups perform very differently.

How Mystic Skills Work in Where Winds Meet

There are 40 Mystic Skills total across three categories. Offensive Skills are your active combat abilities: you equip up to eight simultaneously (four per row) and activate them in combat using Vitality. General Skills have their own hotkeys and use no Vitality: Divine Counter, Star Shift, Still Waters, Touch of Death, and Wind Sense. Movement Skills govern traversal: Lightness Skills, Wall Run, and Diving abilities that unlock based on your regional Exploration level.

Vitality is the resource that gates Offensive Skill use. It regenerates by hitting enemies and restoring at Boundary Stones. The cap is expandable through Melodies of Peace by submitting Oddities. At early game, Vitality management is the primary constraint on how aggressively you can use your skill loadout. At late game, the constraint shifts to cooldowns and sequencing.

Skill slots are not all available by default. You unlock additional Mystic Skill slots through the Talent Points system. Prioritize unlocking Mystic Skill slots before spending Talent Points on passive stat bonuses.

Upgrading Mystic Skills (tiers and ranks)

Each Mystic Skill upgrades through Ranks 0 to 9 within a Tier. Reaching Rank 9 in a Tier enables a Breakthrough to the next Tier, producing significant effect boosts. The upgrade materials are Ebon Iron at lower tiers, with higher-tier materials required as you advance. Lower-tier materials become irrelevant once you break through. The current season development cap is Tier 5.

Mystic Skill upgrades compete with weapon Inner Ways investment for your farming time and Breakthrough materials. The same stamina-gated daily content that produces Martial Points and upgrade materials for weapons also feeds Mystic Skill progression. Topping up for stamina refills accelerates both systems simultaneously.

Which Mystic Skills to Unlock First in Where Winds Meet

Unlock Touch of Death and Veil of Stillness before anything else. Both gate access to restricted Sanctums through Skill Theft, which is the primary acquisition route for new martial arts. Players who push main story content without these two skills miss Martial Art acquisitions that require significant backtracking to recover.

After those two, priority shifts by play style. For PvP, the skill that applies a healing reduction debuff of up to 60% and closes the gap is the most important offensive Mystic Skill in the game. Locate it in Kaifeng's lower-left region. For PvE and co-op, Lion's Roar, Flaming Meteor, and Golden Body form the standard offensive combat loadout. For exploration and puzzle content, Tai Chi, Meridian Touch, and Celestial Seize form the utility row.

How to Slot Your Mystic Skills

Two rows of four Offensive Skills. The approach that works across all content: one row for combat (damage, debuff, control), one row for puzzle and exploration utility (Tai Chi, Meridian Touch, Celestial Seize, and a traversal-adjacent skill). Switch rows on demand. This prevents combat-critical skills from being buried behind utility slots mid-fight.

General Skills, Star Shift especially, are underused by most players because they are not in the main HUD. Star Shift is the assisted parry system. Divine Counter converts successful blocks into damage. Both are high-value across PvP and boss content. Make them reflexive.

New Mystic Skills in 1.6 and 1.7

Version 1.6 added Idle Wind and Stone Pier. Idle Wind transforms you into a breeze for traversal across the Qinchuan region: primarily a movement utility for the seasonal open area rather than a combat skill. Version 1.7 and the Imperial Palace content introduced further additions. Check patch notes on each major update for new skills, as acquisition methods vary and some are time-gated to specific content unlocks.

Where Winds Meet mystic skills FAQs...

How many Mystic Skills can you equip in Where Winds Meet?

Up to eight Offensive Mystic Skills at once, arranged in two rows of four. General Skills (Divine Counter, Star Shift, Still Waters, Touch of Death, Wind Sense) have separate hotkeys and do not occupy these slots. Additional Offensive Skill slots are unlocked through the Talent Points system.

Do Mystic Skills affect combat the same way weapon Inner Ways do?

They affect different things. Inner Ways improves your weapon's damage output, mechanics, and passive bonuses. Mystic Skills add active combat abilities: debuffs, burst damage, control effects, healing reduction. Both systems are required at high levels of PvP and co-op boss content.

Can you upgrade Mystic Skills at any time in Where Winds Meet?

Yes, using Ebon Iron and Breakthrough Materials. Each Tier requires materials of that Tier level. Lower-tier materials become unnecessary once you break through. The current season cap is Tier 5. Upgrade priority should follow your loadout: skills you actively use in every session before situational or puzzle-only skills.
