Best Tarzan Build in Tiles Survive (Skill Priority, Gear & Formation)

May 21, 2026

Tarzan is the second damage carry in Tiles Survive. He does not replace Rosie. He completes the kill.

If you are building a serious Tiles Survive account, Tarzan is the hero who decides whether enemy backlines complete their skill rotations or watch them die mid-cast. His ultimate skips the front row entirely and targets enemy supports and damage dealers before they can deliver. Pull him as the second damage carry after Rosie, build him for burst, and the 4 Guardians + 1 Gunner formation gains the dimension that turns even fights into clean wins.

This is the Tarzan build guide for accounts that already have him, or who know he is the next pull after the front-row core is locked. Skill upgrade order, gear priority, Signature Weapon notes, formation placement, and what he enables at full investment. No beginner framing. Concrete decisions for accounts at competitive scale.

For the broader hero pull order and where Tarzan sits relative to Rosie, Nikola, Tara, and Layla, the Tiles Survive tier list ranks all five S-tier heroes with substitution paths for accounts still missing pieces of the core.

Why Tarzan matters at the top of the Tiles Survive meta...

Tarzan is the team's second damage carry, and his role is structurally different from Rosie's. Rosie delivers AoE damage to whoever is in front of her, sustained across long fights through self-healing. Tarzan delivers burst damage to whoever is behind the enemy front row, ending fights faster by removing enemy supports and DPS before their rotations complete. Together they cover both threat profiles: anyone surviving Rosie's AoE pressure gets finished by Tarzan, anyone surviving Tarzan's backline burst gets ground down by Rosie. Neither hero replaces the other. They compound.

Three things separate Tarzan from every other backline damage option in the SSR pool. His ultimate targets the enemy backline directly, bypassing the front-row Guardians that would otherwise absorb opening burst rotations. His team-wide ATK and DEF buff adds utility on top of his damage output, which means he contributes value even on the turns his ultimate is not active. And his AoE damage pattern hits multiple enemy heroes per rotation, scaling his contribution upward in any engagement against multi-hero formations.

The pull math is straightforward. Tarzan is the second damage carry, and concentrated investment on him pays back across every PvP mode, every Arena rally, and every Cross-Server event where opposing formations rely on backline supports or DPS to set up their wins. Skip him, and you have one damage carry doing the work of two. Build him, and the formation gains the asymmetric pressure that beats opponents on equivalent power scores.

The mistake to avoid is treating Tarzan as a Rosie alternative when the comp is short on damage. He is not the replacement. He is the second carry that pairs with the first. If your account is missing Rosie, the answer is to pull Rosie, not to over-invest in Tarzan. If your account has Rosie and is choosing the next damage hero, the answer is Tarzan over every other option.

This guide is for serious accounts. If you are running Tiles Survive at competitive scale and spending $1K+ per month on your main account, the decisions below are the ones that compound across a season.

If you are at a different stage of investment, the Tiles Survive game guide covers the early account decisions that compound across the first 30 days.

Tarzan skill upgrade order for competitive Tiles Survive players

Tarzan has four skills. The upgrade order for a serious account is locked: third skill first, then ultimate, then the first two.

Third skill first. The third skill is the long-term value driver in Tarzan's kit and the upgrade that produces the most damage per Skill Book over the lifetime of the hero. It activates the team-wide ATK and DEF buff that turns Tarzan from a pure damage carry into a utility-plus-damage hybrid, which is the dimension that lets him contribute on every turn rather than only on ultimate cooldowns. Max it before touching anything else.

Ultimate second. Tarzan's ultimate is his backline-targeting burst payoff, and at higher upgrade tiers it shifts from "deletes one squishy support" to "deletes the entire back row of any unprotected comp." The ultimate upgrades stack with his third skill: more team-wide ATK means his own damage scales harder per rotation, more team-wide DEF means he survives longer to deliver more rotations. Push the ultimate to max once the third skill is locked in.

First skill third, second skill fourth. Tarzan's first two skills are utility scaling rather than damage multipliers. They contribute meaningful stats but at a much lower rate than the third skill and ultimate. Upgrade them after the priority skills are maxed, using whatever Skill Books you can spare during event windows where Skill Book upgrades score points.

Resources for the upgrade path. Skill Books are the gating resource. The reliable sources at the whale-tier scale are Turbo Turtle event rank rewards, daily login chains, and event-shop bundles where Skill Books appear subsidized by event tokens. Buying Skill Books at retail in standard rotation packs is rarely the right call. Buying them in event-shop bundles where the Waypoint conversion is favorable, while running Turbo Turtle for the consumption-scoring milestones, is one of the cleanest paths to a maxed Tarzan in the early-mid game.

Tarzan gear priority (helmet, vest, pants)

The optimization direction for Tarzan's hero gear is clear. ATK percent on the helmet, Crit on the vest, ATK percent on the pants. His value is in the size of his nuke, not in his ability to take a hit. Defensive stats on Tarzan are wasted Hammers because his positioning, not his stat block, keeps him alive.

The order matters. Hit level 20 to 25 across all three gear slots first, then specialize. Below 20, every upgrade is cheap enough that holding back is just leaving stats on the table. Above 25, costs scale exponentially, which is where overcommitting to one slot becomes the most expensive mistake in your first 60 days of gear progression. After the level 25 baseline, push the helmet to alloy quality first, since the ATK percent ceiling on the helmet outscales every other slot for Tarzan's burst role.

For accounts approaching the Reforge layer, the priority specialty stats on Tarzan's alloy gear are auto-attack damage bonus and crit damage. These are the rolls that compound with his burst damage profile and let his ultimate hit the damage thresholds that one-shot enemy supports. Damage reduction and HP percent are wasted Hammers on Tarzan because he is supposed to be protected by the Nikola-Layla front row, not absorbing damage himself. Roll for offensive specialty stats and only offensive specialty stats.

Verify Tarzan's faction in-game before committing Hammers to faction-specific rolls. The Reforge stat pool varies by faction, and the four current factions (Stalwart, Aeronaut, Mariner, Rover) each pull different specialty stats. Roll for the wrong faction's stat pool and the Hammers do not return value.

Tarzan's Signature Weapon

Tarzan's Signature Weapon is the hero-specific exclusive that amplifies his burst damage scaling. While Rosie's Apocalypse Guitar is the highest-priority Signature pull because it produces team-wide defense buffs on top of damage, Tarzan's Signature is the third or fourth Signature priority because it focuses on his own damage output rather than team-wide utility. Fund the team-wide Signatures (Rosie, Tara) first, then move to Tarzan once the defense multiplier layer is locked in.

The unlock cost is 10 Signature Weapon fragments. Subsequent upgrade tiers require additional fragments, and the cost scales sharply through legendary quality. Fragments come from three sources: Turbo Turtle event rank rewards at higher brackets, the Reservoir Raid store purchased with raid coins from alliance performance plus personal contribution, and special bundles that occasionally sell Signature fragments directly during limited-time offers.

The serious-account approach is concentration over breadth. The Signature investment order is Rosie first, Nikola or Tara second depending on which roles your alliance is short on, then Tarzan. Spreading tokens across multiple half-upgraded Signatures produces visibly worse outcomes than running the priority order does. The order of operations matters more than the rate of investment.

How Tarzan fits into Tiles Survive formation placement...

Tarzan sits in the center backline of the 4 Guardians + 1 Gunner formation, directly behind Nikola. Position matters more for Tarzan than for any other hero in the lineup because he is fragile, lacks any hard damage reduction in his kit, and his entire value depends on surviving long enough to channel his ultimate cleanly.

The placement logic. Front-row placement on Tarzan deletes him in the opening exchange. Lateral backline placement exposes him to AoE damage from enemy carries who can target the backline. Center backline, directly behind Nikola, is the only position that keeps him shielded by Nikola's bulk while letting his ultimate reach the enemy backline targeting it needs. Every extra second he survives is another second the enemy backline is in danger.

Pairing logic. Tarzan pairs with Rosie as the team's dual damage carries, but the pairing has a specific structure that most accounts get wrong on the first build. Rosie holds the deep backline as the AoE carry, healing through chip damage and finishing whoever is in front of her. Tarzan sits center-backline behind Nikola, channeling his backline-targeting ult into enemy supports and DPS. Tara takes any safe position where her global DEF buff stacks across the squad. The pairing only works if Tarzan is positioned correctly. Put him in the wrong slot and his contribution drops by half.

What Tarzan enables at full investment...

At full investment, Tarzan is the hero who decides whether enemy formations complete their skill rotations or watch their supports and DPS die before delivering anything. Without him, the team has one carry doing the work of two and engagements drag long enough for opposing comps to deliver their ultimates. With him fully built, fights end faster, opposing supports go down before they heal, and opposing DPS go down before they cast.

Full investment means a maxed third skill, a fully upgraded ultimate, alloy-quality helmet and vest with auto-attack damage bonus and crit damage rolls, and a fully-upgraded Signature Weapon. At that level his contribution to the formation is roughly threefold. He delivers backline-targeting burst that bypasses enemy front rows. He provides team-wide ATK and DEF buffs that compound across every other hero's output. And his ultimate creates a kill-window that closes the fight before opposing comps can deliver their full skill rotations.

The numbers compound across modes. In PvP rallies, Tarzan's ultimate decides whether opposing supports complete their healing rotations or die before delivering them. In 3v3 Arena, he anchors the rally built around his burst window, with the rest of the team setting up the conditions for one decisive damage spike. In Cross-Server competitions, his ability to delete enemy DPS before their carries set up is the difference between a clean Arena clear and a drawn-out fight against equivalent power scores. Tarzan does not replace Rosie. He completes the kill that Rosie's damage starts.

Tiles Survive Tarzan build FAQs...

Should I build Tarzan first in Tiles Survive?

No. Rosie is the first SSR a serious Tiles Survive account should fund. Tarzan is typically the third or fourth pull, after the front-row core (Nikola and Layla) and the primary carry (Rosie) are locked in. He is the second damage carry in the formation, not a Rosie alternative. Without Rosie producing AoE damage and self-healing, a fully-built Tarzan delivers burst rotations into formations that still grind him down over time. Fund Rosie first, then the front row, then Tarzan as the second carry.

What is the best skill priority for Tarzan in Tiles Survive?

Tarzan's skill upgrade order is third skill first, ultimate second, then the first two skills. The third skill activates his team-wide ATK and DEF buff, which is the dimension that turns him into a utility-plus-damage hybrid rather than a pure damage carry. The ultimate maxes his backline-targeting burst payoff per fight. The first two skills are utility scaling that contribute meaningful stats but at a lower return per Skill Book than the third skill and ultimate.

What gear stats should I prioritize for Tarzan?

Prioritize ATK percent and Crit on Tarzan's hero gear. The optimal distribution is ATK percent on the helmet, Crit on the vest, ATK percent on the pants. Push all three slots to level 20 to 25 before specializing, then concentrate alloy-quality upgrades on the helmet first since the ATK percent ceiling outscales the other slots for Tarzan's burst role. For Reforge specialty stats, roll for auto-attack damage bonus and crit damage rather than damage reduction, since Tarzan is fragile by design and his positioning, not his stat block, keeps him alive.

Where should Tarzan be placed in the formation?

Tarzan sits in the center backline of the 4 Guardians + 1 Gunner formation, directly behind Nikola. Front-row placement deletes him in the opening exchange because he has no hard damage reduction in his kit. Lateral backline placement exposes him to enemy AoE carries. Center backline directly behind Nikola is the only slot that keeps him shielded by Nikola's bulk while letting his ultimate reach the enemy backline. Every extra second he survives is another second the enemy backline is in danger.

What is Tarzan's Signature Weapon in Tiles Survive?

Tarzan's Signature Weapon is the hero-specific exclusive that amplifies his burst damage scaling. It is the third or fourth Signature priority for a serious account, after Rosie's Apocalypse Guitar and the team-wide defense Signatures (Tara, Nikola). Like all Signatures, it unlocks at 10 fragments, with subsequent upgrade tiers requiring additional fragments. Fragments come from Turbo Turtle event rank rewards, the Reservoir Raid store, and special limited-time bundles.

Does Tarzan replace Rosie if I cannot pull her?

No. Tarzan is the second damage carry, not a Rosie alternative. The two heroes have different damage profiles: Rosie is sustained AoE with self-healing, Tarzan is burst targeting enemy backlines. They cover different threat patterns, and the formation depends on both running simultaneously. If Rosie is not yet pulled, build the front row first (Nikola, Layla) and use Maddie as a temporary backline AoE substitute until Rosie arrives. Treat Tarzan as the next pull after Rosie, not as her replacement.

How long does it take to fully build Tarzan?

For a serious account spending at competitive scale, a fully-built Tarzan (maxed third skill, fully upgraded ultimate, alloy-quality gear, fully-upgraded Signature Weapon) typically takes 60 to 90 days from initial pull, similar to the Rosie and Nikola investment timelines. The bottleneck is usually Signature fragments rather than Skill Books or gear materials, which is why concentrating Signature token spend on the priority Signatures (Rosie, then Tara or Nikola) before moving to Tarzan is the standard sequence.
