For Last Asylum: Plague spenders who want to know exactly which UR heroes deserve their monthly budget, and in what order...
Last Asylum: Plague now has four UR heroes: Arthur, Marlena, Shadow, and Cynthia. Each one costs significant resources to max. At $1,000+/month, you cannot build all four simultaneously without spreading your investment so thin that none of them perform at competitive levels. The question isn't which UR heroes exist. It's which ones deserve your budget first, second, and third, and which one you can afford to build last.
This guide ranks every UR hero by investment priority for serious spenders, covers what each one actually does at max potential, and explains why the build order matters as much as the heroes themselves. For the full hero tier list including SSR heroes, see the companion guide.
Arthur is your first investment. Full stop. He is the only UR tank available in standard summons from day one — his shards appear in the Tavern recruitment pool, the Alliance Shop, and event rewards. This makes him the most accessible UR hero to max star rank, and he is also the most impactful.
His kit provides team-wide tank damage reduction (Strong Will), an HP-scaling shield on a 4.5-second cooldown (Rock Solid), and AoE Physical DMG reduction for allies (Earthshattering). At 8⭐ he unlocks Tenacity, which boosts ATK, HP, and DEF by 20% and skill cooldown speed by 10%. This single threshold transforms him from strong to dominant. Every other hero on your roster performs better behind a maxed Arthur.
For the complete skill breakdown and gear priority, see the Arthur build guide.
Marlena is the highest single-target burst damage dealer in the game. Her kit is built entirely around eliminating priority targets before they can threaten your squad. She scales exceptionally well with upgrades — the damage numbers become significantly more impactful at higher star ranks.
Marlena's shards are available through summon banners and certain event rewards. She is harder to max than Arthur (who has more shard sources), but the investment is worth every fragment. Arthur + Marlena together form the core duo that handles Rat Swarm waves, Rat King encounters, territory reclamation, and PvP. Build Marlena immediately after Arthur reaches a functional level (minimum 5-6⭐).
You need a DPS carry to convert Arthur's survivability into actual kills. Without Marlena, your squad lives but doesn't kill fast enough. Without Arthur, Marlena dies before she can deal damage. Together, they cover both problems.
Shadow is the newest UR addition and arguably the most stat-loaded hero in Last Asylum: Plague. He is the only hero in the game whose maximum HP exceeds 1 million at full build — a Ranger-Tank hybrid with a kit that does everything.
His auto attacks fire three separate projectiles per cycle, each dealing 210% ATK damage — one of the highest auto-attack damage outputs in the game. His ultimate deals 462% ATK AoE damage and reduces damage taken for 3 seconds. His second ability delivers a massive 922.5% ATK AoE hit while reducing enemy Energy damage by 40.2% for 5 seconds. His passive reduces Energy damage received by allies by 22% — a permanent team-wide buff that fills a gap Arthur's Earthshattering doesn't cover (since Earthshattering only reduces Physical damage).
Shadow is a premium hero — his shards come through top-up rewards and premium purchase paths, not standard summons. For spenders at $1,000+/month, this isn't a barrier. It's a question of timing. Build Shadow after your Arthur + Marlena core is functional.
Shadow's Energy damage reduction passive stacks with Arthur's Physical damage reduction, giving your squad coverage against both damage types. He also brings raw damage output that rivals dedicated carries while being tankier than any of them. But he requires your Arthur foundation to already be in place.
Cynthia is the second UR carry in the game alongside Marlena. She deals strong damage and has a solid kit, but at equivalent investment, Marlena outperforms her in most scenarios across all three primary scoring criteria: Rat Swarm, boss content, and PvP.
Cynthia's shards are available through VIP shop purchases, certain badge exchanges, and event reward cycles. The Wishing Wheel also offers Cynthia shards at a 10% chance per spin, with rarer 2-shard and 5-shard drops at lower probabilities. She is more accessible now than at launch, and her shard economy will likely continue improving as the game matures.
Cynthia is a strong hero. She is not a bad investment. But at $1,000+/month, opportunity cost matters. Every resource directed to Cynthia before your Arthur, Marlena, and Shadow are functional is a resource that isn't going to the heroes that produce more competitive value per dollar. Build Cynthia as your second-squad carry once your primary squad is complete.
If you lead an alliance, the UR investment question extends beyond your personal account. Your members' hero builds directly affect alliance warfare outcomes. The coordination framework:
Every member needs Arthur first. This is non-negotiable. An alliance where every member has a functional Arthur produces dramatically better results in Hunt Battle, Alliance Duel, and territory defense than one where members have scattered hero investment.
Marlena second for your primary combat members. Your top 10-15 members who participate in alliance warfare should prioritize Arthur → Marlena. Support members focused on gathering can defer Marlena in favor of economy-focused progression.
Shadow as a whale-tier force multiplier. When your R5 and top R4s add Shadow to their rosters, the alliance's overall damage type coverage improves. Shadow's Energy damage reduction passive fills the gap that Arthur's Physical-only Earthshattering leaves open.
Building four UR heroes to competitive star ranks is a multi-month project at any spending level. Every banner pull, every shop purchase, every event reward cycle contributes fragments that inch your roster closer to max potential. At $1,000+/month, the sheer volume of transactions involved means even small per-purchase inefficiencies compound into meaningful power gaps over time.
