How to Increase Monarch EXP in Evony: Level Guide for Serious Accounts

July 2, 2026

Monarch level is one of the most underestimated progression systems in Evony. It directly caps your generals, gates your Talent Tree depth, and determines how strong every buff in your account can ultimately become. Accounts that treat it as background noise consistently hit walls that look like gear or resource problems but are actually Monarch level problems.

Why Monarch level matters more than most accounts realize

In Evony: The King's Return, Monarch level controls two things that make everything else in the game work better.

First, Monarch level caps the maximum level of every General on your account. Generals cannot be leveled beyond your current Monarch level regardless of how much General EXP you apply to them. An account at Monarch level 29 with a top-tier general is capped at a general level of 29. The same account at Monarch level 45 can push that general substantially higher, with proportionally greater base stats and buff scaling. This makes Monarch level a ceiling on general investment, not just a background progression metric.

Second, every Monarch level grants one Talent Point. Talent Points populate the Monarch Talent Tree, which delivers passive buffs to construction speed, research speed, resource production, gathering, training speed, march speed, and PvP-specific combat stats depending on which build is active. The depth of the Talent Tree you can access is gated by Monarch level, meaning accounts at low Monarch levels cannot reach the higher-tier talents regardless of how many Talent Points they have allocated.

The compounding effect is that Monarch level constrains two of the highest-leverage systems in the game simultaneously, and both constraints become more visible the further an account develops.

The most efficient Monarch EXP sources ranked

Shrine offerings (the highest consistent EXP source)

The Shrine is the most reliable high-volume Monarch EXP source in Evony. Every offering, whether made with Gems or Tributes, generates both Monarch EXP and Prestige simultaneously. This dual output is why the Shrine is the first activity to optimize for accounts that want to raise Monarch level efficiently, since the same spend or resource investment produces two outputs at once.

The EXP value of each Shrine offering scales with Shrine level, which means upgrading the Shrine building itself is a direct Monarch EXP multiplier. The higher the Shrine level, the more EXP each offering delivers. Keeping the Shrine upgraded is not optional for accounts actively pursuing Monarch level gains.

The optimal daily cadence is 6 Gem offerings per day. Gem offering costs escalate with each daily offering (resetting daily) and the per-EXP efficiency drops steeply after the 6th offering. For accounts where Pink Gems are not the binding constraint, 8 to 10 offerings per day remains viable before the cost curve becomes unfavorable.

Tribute offerings always deliver one full offering worth of EXP regardless of how many Gem offerings have been made that day. This is the same mechanic that makes Tributes valuable for Prestige batching, and it applies to Monarch EXP equally. Deploying a Tribute as the 16th offering of the day extracts the same EXP output as a 1,500-Gem offering at zero Gem cost. The Tribute sourcing and batching strategy covered in the Evony Prestige guide applies directly here, since Shrine offerings serve both systems simultaneously.

The Offering Monarch Talent at maximum level adds 20% to both Prestige and Monarch EXP per offering. For accounts that batch Tributes, activating the Offering Talent before deploying the batch is the single highest-leverage preparation step.

Boss kills (consistent background EXP that compounds with other outputs)

Every boss kill generates Monarch EXP alongside the material drops, Prestige, General EXP, and Alliance Points it produces. Hydra bosses are particularly notable because they include guaranteed Monarch EXP in their chest drops in addition to the standard kill reward, making them the highest Monarch EXP per stamina among regular boss types.

The important principle is that boss hunting is not an either/or with Shrine offerings for Monarch EXP. It runs in parallel. Accounts that maintain a consistent daily boss hunting cadence build Monarch EXP (and Prestige, and materials, and Alliance Points) continuously, while Shrine offerings provide the high-volume concentrated gains on top.

Normal monsters level 31 and above also generate meaningful Monarch EXP and can be run efficiently when standard boss targets are not available. They are faster to kill than rallied bosses and do not require coordinating with alliance members.

Monarch EXP books (stockpile and deploy strategically)

Monarch EXP books (green, not to be confused with brown General EXP books) accumulate from gathering resources, Wheel of Fortune spins, event reward chests, Undead Invasion completions, Monarch Competition participation, and SvS events. They do not expire.

The strategic value of EXP books is their deployability. Unlike Shrine offerings or boss kills, which produce EXP on a daily cadence, books can be stockpiled and applied in a single session at a moment that matters, such as when approaching a Monarch level that unlocks a new Talent tier, or when pushing a general past a level cap that has been limiting its development.

The mistake is using EXP books as soon as they drop. Accounts that consistently deploy books immediately never build the kind of reserve that allows a strategic level push. Treating EXP books as a stockpile resource rather than an immediate use item gives far more control over when Monarch level milestones land.

Sources worth prioritizing for book accumulation:Gathering marches (especially long offline gathers), Wheel of Fortune chips from boss kills, Undead Invasion completions, and Monarch Competition daily participation. None of these require dedicated gem spend and all run in parallel with other account activities.

The Monarch Talent Tree (phasing builds for growth vs. PvP)

The Talent Tree has two saved build slots, meaning accounts can maintain one growth-phase build and one PvP build and switch between them for a gem cost. This system exists precisely because the optimal Talent allocation changes as an account develops, and trying to build a single Talent configuration that serves all purposes produces a configuration that serves none of them well.

Growth-phase build (early to mid-game priority):The most impactful early Talent selections are the Offering talent (levels 2 to 5) for Shrine EXP and Prestige efficiency, followed by resource production (levels 6 to 9), then research speed (levels 10 to 13), then troop load and rescue (levels 14 to 17). This sequence prioritizes the infrastructure that makes every subsequent decision faster and cheaper. Serious accounts that followed the Evony high spender strategy guide approach will recognize this as the same discipline: growth-phase buffs first, combat-phase buffs after the foundation is built.

PvP-phase build (mid to late-game priority):Once the account's construction and research infrastructure is established, a Talent reset into a PvP configuration becomes the correct next move. PvP-focused Talent builds typically prioritize march speed (levels 2 to 5), troop mortality reduction, warehouse protection, rescue and sub-city training, and eventually training speed and hospital capacity in the higher tiers. The exact build varies based on whether the account's primary PvP role is offensive rally lead, defensive anchor, or sub-city combat.

Reset discipline: The Gem cost to reset Talent points is real but manageable for accounts at serious spend levels. The mistake to avoid is resetting frequently for marginal gains rather than planning the transition from growth to PvP as a deliberate one-time switch at the appropriate development stage. Two saved builds (growth and PvP) cover the vast majority of use cases without requiring ongoing resets. The exception is temporarily swapping the Offering Talent in for large Tribute batch sessions, which is worth the switch cost when the batch is large enough to justify it.

How Monarch level and general development interact in practice

The general level cap at Monarch level creates a specific planning obligation for serious accounts: Monarch level needs to be actively developed in parallel with general investment, not treated as something that catches up on its own.

An account that cultivates a top-tier general to high stat levels but has a Monarch level that caps that general at level 30 is leaving a portion of the cultivation investment stranded. The stats that cultivation produces fully apply at the general's current level, but the general cannot reach the levels where its Specialty bonuses and base stat scaling compound at their highest rates.

The practical check: before committing significant cultivation gems to a general, verify that your current Monarch level allows that general to reach a level where the investment fully lands. If Monarch level is the constraint, prioritize Shrine offerings and boss hunting to close the gap before deepening general cultivation spend.

The fastest path to VIP level compounds with every other spend decision...

Every pack purchase in Evony generates VIP points alongside whatever the pack's primary contents are. This means the accounts that reach VIP 15 fastest are not the ones who targeted VIP directly. They are the ones who spent consistently, on the right things, during the right windows, and let VIP accumulate as a byproduct.

The same logic runs in reverse. Every purchase that happens outside an event window, every impulse pack that didn't route toward a priority general or a Consuming Return threshold, every Monthly Card skipped: those are not just missed opportunities in isolation. They are VIP points that didn't accumulate, construction speed that didn't compound, and PvP buffs that unlocked a month later than they should have.

At serious spend levels, the gap between accounts at the same monthly budget is almost never willingness to spend. It is whether that spend landed consistently, in the right sequence, on the right targets. VIP level is the passive record of that discipline over time.

Packsify routes your Pink Gem purchases through official channels in a more efficient way than buying solo. Same packs, same in-game delivery, same official payment rails. The difference is that your monthly budget produces more Pink Gems per dollar spent, which means more VIP points, more General fragments, and more event milestone completions from the spending you were already planning to do.

Evony Monarch EXP guide: FAQs

What is the fastest way to increase Monarch EXP in Evony?

Shrine offerings are the highest-volume consistent source: 6 Gem offerings per day at minimum, supplemented by Tribute offerings (particularly valuable when deployed in batches with the Offering Monarch Talent active). Boss kills, especially Hydra bosses and regular bosses level 8 and above, generate Monarch EXP alongside materials and Prestige as a parallel daily source. Monarch EXP books from gathering, event participation, and Wheel of Fortune chips can be stockpiled and deployed strategically at level milestones.

How does the Offering Talent affect Monarch EXP in Evony?

The Offering Monarch Talent at its maximum level of 4 adds 20% to the Monarch EXP and Prestige received from every Shrine offering. It applies to both Gem offerings and Tribute offerings. Accounts that maintain the Offering Talent active during daily Gem offerings and activate it before deploying large Tribute batches extract significantly more Monarch EXP per resource spent than accounts that offer without it active.

When should I reset Monarch Talents in Evony?

The primary reset point for most accounts is the transition from a growth-phase build (prioritizing Offering, resource production, and research speed in the early Talent tiers) to a PvP-phase build (prioritizing march speed, combat-relevant talents, and sub-city buffs). This is a deliberate one-time transition rather than a frequent adjustment. Using one saved build slot for a growth configuration and one for PvP covers most use cases without ongoing resets. Temporarily swapping the Offering Talent in for a large Tribute batch session is also worth the reset cost when the batch is large enough.

How do I get Tributes in Evony?

The most reliable Tribute sources are the Relic Chamber (through relic exploration with completed Alliance Academy research), the Alliance Shop (purchasable for Alliance Points, with the tradeoff that Alliance Points are also valuable for VIP points), and the Black Market when Tribute bundles appear. Wheel of Fortune chips from boss kills occasionally award Tributes as prizes. See the Evony VIP guide for how to balance Alliance Point allocation between Tributes and VIP points.
