Evony World Boss Guide (boss types, troop weaknesses, and how to maximize damage)

July 1, 2026

For alliance leaders who want to understand why some accounts deal five times more damage to the same World Boss with the same march size, and what to actually do about it.

What the World Boss event is and why it rewards preparation more than power...

The World Boss event runs from Tuesday to Sunday each week. A different boss spawns each day, changing its location on the world map every six hours and remaining available to attack for three hours after each refresh. Every player gets five free attacks per day, with up to five additional attacks purchasable for gems at an escalating cost per attempt.

No troops are killed or wounded in the permanent sense. Damage to your troops is calculated internally during the battle, and when your wounded count reaches approximately 0.8% of your march, the battle ends and your troops are restored to full health immediately. This has two important implications that most accounts ignore: first, you genuinely cannot lose anything by attacking, so there is no reason not to use all five daily attacks. Second, the 0.8% wounded cap is the primary mechanical constraint on damage output, and how you build your march determines how quickly you hit it.

The objective is not to kill the boss. It is to deal as much damage as possible before the event ends. Top damage dealers in the individual ranking and top alliances in the cumulative damage ranking both receive meaningful rewards: gems, refining stones, speed-ups, general fragments, and Spiritual Beast materials. Alliances need at least one coordinated rally during the event to qualify for alliance damage ranking rewards, even if individual members attack mostly solo.

Evony World Boss types and their troop weaknesses...

This is the section most World Boss guides get wrong or skip entirely. The type of boss spawning this week changes which troop type you should send and which sub-city generals you should activate before attacking. Getting this right is often worth more damage than a full tier of troop upgrades.

Each boss has specific troop debuffs that work against it, with a maximum debuff reduction of 250%. The debuffs come from your attacking general's equipment, your research, and critically, the sub-city generals you have active at the time of your attack. Matching your sub-city mayor debuffs to the boss's vulnerability is one of the highest-leverage preparation steps a serious account can take before each attack window.

Behemoth King

The Behemoth King is vulnerable to ground attack and defense debuffs. This means equipping your attacking general with gear that carries ground troop debuffs and placing a sub-city mayor general with a ground troop defense debuff skill will increase your damage output against this specific boss.

For troop type, mounted troops remain the default choice due to their higher base attack stat, unless your ground buffs are significantly better developed than your mounted buffs. Test both with your specific account setup during the first attack of the day before committing your remaining attempts.

Bird of Hurricane

The Bird of Hurricane is vulnerable to ranged attack and defense debuffs. Following a specification update in September 2024, ground troops now deal increased damage to the Bird of Hurricane compared to mounted troops. This makes the Bird of Hurricane the boss where troop type choice matters most and where accounts that default to "always send mounted" leave the most damage on the table.

If your ground troop count and ground troop buffs are reasonably developed, send ground troops against the Bird of Hurricane and equip ranged debuff gear on your attacking general. If your ground buffs are undeveloped relative to your mounted buffs, mounted troops may still produce better results with your specific numbers. The safest approach is to test on your first attack each Bird of Hurricane week.

The Bird of Hurricane is also a Spiritual Beast in Evony, distinct from the World Boss. Do not confuse the two when searching for guides: the World Boss Bird of Hurricane is a damage target; the Bird of Hurricane Spiritual Beast is a companion assigned to generals for mounted troop bonuses.

Thunder Scorpion

The Thunder Scorpion World Boss is vulnerable to mounted attack and defense debuffs. Following the same September 2024 update, ranged troops now deal increased damage to the Thunder Scorpion compared to mounted troops. If your ranged troop development is strong, this is the boss where running a ranged general with mounted debuff gear in your equipment set produces the highest per-attack output.

As with the Bird of Hurricane, test your first attack with both your best ranged march and your best mounted march before committing the remaining four daily attempts. Which approach wins depends on your specific buff levels, not the general rule.

The Thunder Scorpion is also a Spiritual Beast (focused on ranged PvP), separate from this World Boss. The naming overlap is a common point of confusion for players searching for guides on either.

Scorpion King

The Scorpion King is vulnerable to mounted attack and defense debuffs. Mounted troops are generally your strongest choice against this boss, reinforced by mounted debuff gear on your attacking general and the relevant sub-city mayor setup.

Why the 0.8% wounded cap matters more than march size alone...

The battle ends when your internal wounded count reaches approximately 0.8% of your total marching troops. This creates a counter-intuitive trap that many accounts fall into: padding a march with low-tier troops to increase march size actually reduces total damage output rather than increasing it.

Low-tier troops contribute minimal damage per hit but are wounded at roughly the same rate as higher-tier troops when they absorb attacks. They push your march toward the 0.8% threshold faster while adding almost nothing to your damage total. A focused march of your highest-tier troops in your primary troop type, sized to your actual march capacity without low-tier padding, consistently outperforms a larger but mixed march against the same boss.

The implication for how to build toward World Boss damage is direct: March capacity buffs (from the Rally Spot, research, Monarch Gear, and general specialties) that let you send more high-tier troops in a single march produce more World Boss damage than the same investment spent on training low-tier troops to fill the remaining march slots.

Sub-city generals — the preparation step most accounts skip...

Before each World Boss attack, check which boss is active and swap your sub-city mayor generals to ones whose debuff skills match the boss's vulnerability. A sub-city mayor general with a ground attack debuff skill applied against the Behemoth King adds a meaningful percentage reduction to its effective defenses for that attack. This is a zero-cost, five-minute preparation step that produces tangible damage gains every time.

The compounding effect applies at the alliance level as well. An alliance where the R5 posts the boss type and the correct sub-city debuff type at the start of each World Boss window, and members actually swap their sub-city mayors before attacking, produces noticeably more collective damage than the same group of accounts ignoring sub-city setup. One message in alliance chat before the first attack of the day is the coordination overhead.

How alliance rankings work and why at least one coordinated rally matters...

Individual damage rankings reward each player based on the total damage they deal across all attacks during the event. Alliance cumulative damage rankings reward the collective output of all members. Your alliance qualifies for alliance ranking rewards only if it has submitted at least one coordinated rally against the World Boss during the event, regardless of how much individual damage members have dealt.

Rallies against the World Boss work the same way as rallies against regular boss monsters. For an alliance competing seriously for cumulative damage ranking placement, coordinating a rally of the alliance's highest-damage accounts during a window when strong buffs are active (and the relevant debuff setup is in place) is worth more than the same number of solo attacks during the same period.

An R4 or R5 who identifies the World Boss type, posts the correct troop type and debuff setup, and calls a coordinated rally during the first available window of the event covers everything the alliance needs from a leadership standpoint. The preparation overhead is five minutes. The cumulative damage difference relative to uncoordinated participation is real.

Loot drops and scout timing...

When the World Boss's HP is reduced to 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, and 0% of its health pool, treasure chests drop on the world map around the boss location. Each player can send scouts to collect these up to ten times per day. The player or alliance that dealt the damage pushing the boss through each threshold receives additional rewards, up to twice per day.

If your server has heavy hitters who consistently push the boss through HP thresholds, keep scouts on standby during the World Boss window and send them immediately when a threshold drop is announced in alliance chat. These drops are first-come on collection.

What a prepared World Boss attack setup actually looks like...

Before your first attack of the day: identify the active boss type, match your sub-city mayor generals to the relevant debuff (ground debuff for Behemoth King, ranged debuff for Bird of Hurricane and Thunder Scorpion, mounted debuff for Scorpion King), equip your attacking general with gear that carries the relevant troop type debuff alongside your primary troop buffs, attach your strongest Spiritual Beast appropriate to your troop type, apply march size and attack buffs, and set your march to your highest-tier troops in your primary type without low-tier padding.

Use your first attack to confirm which troop type is producing the highest damage with your specific buff setup for that boss. Commit your remaining four daily attacks to whichever approach won the test. Purchase additional attacks only if the cost in gems aligns with what the ranking reward at your current placement is worth relative to your overall spending plan for that week.

For how the World Boss event fits into your broader event spending calendar, and which spend decisions compound the most during event windows, the Evony event preparation guide covers the full framework.

Evony World Boss guide: FAQs

What troop type is best for the Evony World Boss?

It depends on which boss is active. Mounted troops are the default for most bosses because of their high base attack stat. Bird of Hurricane takes more damage from ground troops, and Thunder Scorpion takes more damage from ranged troops, following a September 2024 update. The most reliable approach is to test your first attack of each event day with your primary troop type and, if the boss is Bird of Hurricane or Thunder Scorpion, compare against your best alternative. Your specific buff levels determine which wins for your account.

What is the Bird of Hurricane weakness in Evony?

The Bird of Hurricane World Boss takes increased damage from ground troops (post-September 2024 update) and is vulnerable to ranged attack and defense debuffs. Equip your attacking general with ranged debuff gear and set sub-city mayors with ranged debuff skills before attacking. If your ground troop buffs are strong, send ground troops. If your mounted buffs significantly outperform your ground buffs, test both before committing multiple attacks.

What is the Behemoth King weakness in Evony?

The Behemoth King World Boss is vulnerable to ground attack and defense debuffs. Set sub-city mayor generals with ground troop debuff skills before attacking. Mounted troops are generally the best troop type to send unless your ground troop buffs are substantially stronger than your mounted buffs.

What is the Thunder Scorpion weakness in Evony?

The Thunder Scorpion World Boss takes increased damage from ranged troops and is vulnerable to mounted attack and defense debuffs. Equip ranged debuff gear on your attacking general and place sub-city mayors with mounted debuff skills before attacking. Note that Thunder Scorpion is also a Spiritual Beast name in Evony — these are different things.

Can you do alliance rallies against the Evony World Boss?

Yes. Alliance rallies work against the World Boss and are required for your alliance to qualify for cumulative alliance damage ranking rewards. Coordinating at least one rally per event, with your highest-damage members and the correct debuff setup for the active boss, is the minimum alliance coordination needed to collect alliance ranking rewards.

Why does my World Boss attack end early even with a full march?

The battle ends when your wounded count reaches approximately 0.8% of your marching troops. Padding your march with low-tier troops causes this threshold to be reached faster because they are wounded quickly but contribute minimal damage. Send your highest-tier troops in your primary type without low-tier filler for maximum damage before the battle ends.

How do I collect the World Boss treasure drops?

When the World Boss HP reaches 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, and 0%, chests drop around the boss location on the world map. Send scouts to collect them. Each player can collect up to ten times per day. Chests are collected on a first-come basis, so send scouts promptly when a threshold drop is announced.
