For Rise of Kingdoms alliance leaders and high spenders ($1,000+/month) entering Season of Conquest — the most consequential KvK format in the game, where preparation, coalition politics, and crystal tech investment separate the kingdoms that dominate from those that grind it out and still lose.
KvK 1, 2, and 3 test your commanders and troop counts. Season of Conquest tests your entire operation — how well your alliance is organized, how early your leadership started preparing, how efficiently your spending translated into crystal tech, and whether your coalition is coherent enough to function as a 500-player unit under war conditions.
The Season of Conquest (SoC) format, known as Heroic Anthem in its primary chapter, introduces systems that don’t exist in earlier KvKs: the Crystal Mine, the Crystal Research Center, the Coalition system, Bastions, and Seasonal Currency. Each one requires preparation and decision-making that starts months before the event opens.
Accounts that arrive at SoC without staged speedups, without a coalition plan, and without a crystal tech priority path will spend the first two weeks catching up, and never fully recover the compounding advantage that early movers build.
This guide covers everything an alliance leader at $1,000+/month needs to know: the structure of Season of Conquest, the pre-event preparation window, crystal tech investment priority, coalition management, spending windows, and the in-event decisions that compound into final placement.
Season of Conquest runs as a series of chapters — Heroic Anthem is the first and most significant, followed by Strife of the Eight and March of the Ages. Each chapter has its own rules, but they all share the core SoC infrastructure: Crystal tech, the Coalition system, and Camp-based matchmaking. Understanding how these systems interact is the foundation of SoC strategy.
Camp system: Every kingdom is assigned to one of four camps (Fire, Earth, Wind, Water) for the duration of SoC. Matchmaking is power-weighted — Lilith balances active player counts across camps. You cannot choose your camp, and you cannot change it after registration closes.
The camp assignment determines which kingdoms you are allied with at the macro level and which you are fighting. Camp rewards go to all members of winning camps, but they are secondary to coalition and individual rewards in terms of strategic priority.
Coalition system: Alliances within the same camp can form Coalitions — effectively a 500+ player mega-alliance that shares rally access, building assistance, occupation bonuses from Altars and Ruins, and territory-linked benefits. Coalition membership is not automatic, alliance leaders must create or join one.
An alliance outside of a coalition in SoC receives none of the compounding benefits that coalition membership provides, which makes joining the strongest available coalition the first move every alliance leader should make upon entering the event.
Crystal Mine: A temporary building constructed at the start of Heroic Anthem. It produces Crystals — the primary currency for upgrading the Crystal Research Center and all SoC technology. Crystal Mine level directly determines hourly crystal production, and the difference between level 1 and level 15 is a 2x income multiplier.
Getting the Crystal Mine to level 15 requires approximately 10 days without titles, buffs, or runes, which means you need 30+ days of universal speedups staged before SoC opens just to accelerate this one building. Every day the Crystal Mine sits below level 15 is compounding crystal income you cannot recover.
Crystal Research Center: The second new building, where Crystals are spent to unlock SoC-exclusive technology. There are two research lines: Fundamentals (crystal efficiency and production) and Military (troop combat stats). Both generate Seasonal Currency as research completes. Seasonal Currency is the shop currency for legendary equipment, legendary city skins, and legendary materials — the highest-value SoC rewards.
The amount of Seasonal Currency you generate is a direct function of how much research you complete, which is a direct function of crystal income, which is a direct function of how fast your Crystal Mine levels up. The chain starts on Day 1.
Bastions: Fixed structures on the SoC map. Your coalition's territory must physically touch a Bastion to activate its quests. Completing 15 Bastion quests per day earns Crystals and advances your Favor with that Bastion's commander. At Favor level 6, you unlock a support skill from that commander that can be added to any of your marches.
For high spenders, the target is to reach Bastion level 7 as fast as possible to unlock the combat-relevant passive commander skill that functions in war. The strategic implication: your coalition's territorial expansion during the opening days of SoC must prioritize the map positions that connect your territory to the highest-value Bastions.
Conquest Coins: Earned by completing Crusader Achievements. Unlike Seasonal Currency, unspent Conquest Coins carry over to the next SoC chapter. The critical note: do not spend Conquest Coins on two-coin legendary weapons during early SoC — the cost-to-value ratio is unfavorable compared to other Seasonal Currency purchases. Save Conquest Coins and spend them on the items that produce the highest per-coin return in the shop.
SoC preparation is not optional and it is not something you can catch up on once the event opens. The 30 days before SoC begins are the window that determines your crystal tech ceiling for the entire season.
Universal speedups — 30+ days staged minimum. Every speedup you deploy during the first 10 days of SoC goes toward Crystal Mine leveling. Every speedup after that goes toward Crystal Research Center progression.
At $1,000+/month, speedup acquisition from events, bundles, and MGE should be conserved in the final month before SoC rather than burned on home-kingdom queue management. The accounts that enter SoC Day 1 with 30+ days of speedups set the crystal tech pace for the entire coalition.
Resources — stockpile gold specifically. Crystal Mine production requires Food, Wood, Stone, and Gold in equal parts. Gold becomes the binding constraint for most accounts because it is the hardest resource to farm at scale.
In the month before SoC, pause spending gold on troop healing and healing speedup consumption, and let the gold reserve accumulate. Entering SoC with a 20M+ gold reserve ensures Crystal Mine production runs at full capacity without resource gaps that stall crystal income.
Equipment materials — stop dismantling. Bastion quests require donating equipment materials. Accounts that have been dismantling surplus materials for other purposes will hit early quest walls. Stockpile normal and advanced equipment materials in the month before SoC specifically to keep Bastion quest completion uninterrupted through the opening weeks.
AP items — save for Kahar's Bone. Kahar's Bone Necklace is the highest single-action crystal yield available in SoC, equivalent to a boss fight that produces crystals for your entire account. Certain Crystal Research Center technologies increase the crystal yield from Kahar's Bone, which means you should unlock those technologies before using your Kahar's Bone items for maximum return. Hold AP items until those techs are researched.
Coalition alignment — do this before the event opens. Contact the alliance leaders of the other top alliances in your camp as soon as camp assignments are visible. Coalition slot competition in the first hours of SoC determines which alliances get into the top coalition and which are left forming second-tier ones. As an R5, your coalition formation message should go out the moment camp assignments are public.
The Crystal Research Center has two lines: Fundamentals and Military. The instinct for high spenders is to go straight to Military tech for the combat buffs. This is wrong in the first two weeks. The correct sequence prioritizes Fundamentals first specifically because Fundamentals tech increases crystal production rate and Kahar's Bone yield, which compounds into more Military tech faster than going Military first.
The correct early-SoC crystal tech sequence for high spenders:
Days 1–10: Get Crystal Mine to level 15 using universal speedups. Do not start any Crystal Research Center tech until the Mine is at 15 — the income multiplier from level 15 is too significant to delay.
Days 10–20: Research Fundamentals tech that increases crystal production rate and Kahar's Bone crystal yield. Unlock these before using any Kahar's Bone items. The crystal return on Kahar's Bone with these techs researched is dramatically higher than without them.
Days 20+: Shift to Military tech, focusing exclusively on the troop type that matches your primary march. High spenders can unlock everything in Military if crystal income is maximized, but the sequencing still matters: Fundamentals-first ensures the Military tech is unlocked faster in absolute terms than going Military-first.
Military tech specialization: With the 7th anniversary Crystal Tech rework, Military tech now includes unit-specific lines — Infantry Expert, Cavalry Expert, Archer Expert — that provide both traditional combat bonuses and additional damage against the corresponding unit type.
Concentrate your Military tech investment on the line that matches your primary march. Only whale-level accounts with maximized crystal income should attempt to unlock multiple unit-type lines simultaneously.
Before SoC opens — coalition formation: Identify which alliances in your camp have the strongest accounts and reach out to their R5s for coalition formation before the event begins. The top coalition in your camp will have first access to Bastion territory and the compounding crystal income that comes from Bastion quests. If you are not in the first coalition formed, you are competing for second-tier positions from Day 1.
Day 1 priority — Crystal Mine construction and territorial expansion: The first alliance action when SoC opens is constructing the Crystal Mine and immediately beginning upgrades. Simultaneously, your coalition should be expanding territory toward the highest-value Bastions on the map. Coordinate which Bastions your coalition targets before the event opens — being the first coalition to touch a Bastion activates its quests and begins your Favor progression.
Day 10 coordination — Kahar's Bone timing: Send a coalition-wide message the moment your Fundamentals tech reaches the Kahar's Bone yield upgrades. Every member who has been holding Kahar's Bone items should use them after those techs are researched. A coordinated coalition-wide Kahar's Bone deployment in the same window produces the maximum crystal yield across all members simultaneously.
Ruins and Altar of Darkness management: These open for 1 hour every 39 hours and only one alliance can control them at a time. All coalition members share the occupation bonuses, making control of Ruins and Altars a coalition-level priority rather than an individual one.
Designate which alliance in your coalition is responsible for each Ruin and Altar. Pre-assign the rally leaders and march compositions before the windows open. A Ruin capture that happens by chance is worth the same as one that was planned, but a Ruin missed because no one coordinated costs the entire coalition the occupation bonus.
Seasonal Currency spending coordination: Before your top spenders start spending Seasonal Currency in the shop, communicate which items are the highest priority at the coalition level. Legendary equipment materials that are shared shortages across multiple accounts should be purchased in an agreed order. Members who don’t need specific items should hold their Seasonal Currency to let members who do get there first, then spend on their own priorities afterward.

The fastest path is getting the Crystal Mine to level 15 immediately using staged speedups, joining the top coalition for passive Bastion crystal income, completing 15 Bastion quests per day, and using Kahar’s Bone items after the Fundamentals tech that increases their crystal yield is researched. The Premium Season Crystal Supply bundle adds 3 million crystals across the event and is the highest single-purchase crystal source available.
Fundamentals first, specifically the crystal production rate increases and Kahar’s Bone yield upgrades. Once those are researched and Kahar’s Bone items are used, shift fully to Military tech. Within Military tech, specialise in the unit-type Expert line that matches your primary march (Infantry Expert, Cavalry Expert, or Archer Expert). Do not split crystal investment across multiple unit-type lines unless your crystal income is at maximum capacity.
Coalitions are formed by alliance leaders within the same camp. A Coalition functions as a 500+ player mega-alliance — members can join each other’s rallies, assist buildings, share occupation bonuses from Ruins and Altars of Darkness, share territory boosts, and access coalition-wide rewards. Being in the top coalition in your camp is one of the highest-leverage decisions an alliance leader makes in SoC. Form or join a coalition before the event opens, not after.
