Marvel Mystic Mayhem drops you into a twisted dream-world full of Marvel icons, gacha pulls, and flashy skill cards, but not every hero (or villain) in your roster is worth your precious Dreamgems.
The game actually gives you a surprisingly decent amount of free characters early on. And if you play smart, especially as a free-to-play or light spender, you can build a team that carries you through story mode, raids, and events without burning out or hitting progress walls.
This tier list breaks down the best heroes in the current meta so you can focus your upgrades, and build a team that actually works, whether you're going for pure damage, solid utility, or a support backbone that keeps your squad alive.
Not all units are created equal. Some have instant impact from the moment you unlock them. Others… feel more like filler until you pull someone better.
We’ve grouped characters into five tiers based on performance across PvE, potential in PvP (where relevant), and how well they scale as you invest more into their Soul Sagas, Highlights, and talents.
• S+ Tier (Game-Changers): Characters that can solo carry your team, deal massive damage, or bring unbeatable utility. If you get one, build around them.
• S Tier (Reliable Powerhouses): Very strong, often easier to build than S+ heroes, and great in most team comps and content types.
• A Tier (Strong with Support): Useful and well-rounded, but may need more investment, synergies, or dupes to really shine.
• B Tier (Early Game Helpers): Totally fine in the beginning, but you’ll want to phase them out mid- to late-game.
• C Tier (Outclassed or Awkward): Usable in a pinch, but not worth building long-term unless you have nothing better.
If you’re just starting out, you’ll likely unlock Hulk, Lady Bullseye, Sleepwalker, and Moon Girl within the first few chapters and login rewards. And that’s a great place to start.
Use your free units as a core while you explore summon banners, and if you pull a heavy-hitter like Emma Frost, Scarlet Witch, or Iron Man, pivot fast.
Now let’s break it all down…
These are the heroes you build your team around. Whether it’s insane damage output, game-altering passives, or top-tier control, these units define the current meta.
She’s not just flashy… Scarlet Witch melts enemies with her ultimate and chains skills back-to-back when she gets kills. In high-damage comps or late-game story content, she’s basically your cheat code.
Probably the best starter unit you can hope for. Heals, buffs, AoE debuffs, and even applies “confuse” to make enemies hit their own allies. She scales beautifully and holds her own even without dupes.
She’s free if you log in for 7 days, and you should be thankful. Storm applies multiple debuffs, gains ultimate energy from them, and ramps damage over time. She’s one of the best magic AoE units in the game right now.
Don’t let “free” fool you. She’s nasty in the best way… huge single-target crits, follow-up attacks, and scaling damage. Perfect for Nightfall or boss-killing comps. Easy to build and hard to replace.
He hits hard, scales well, and fits into almost any physical comp. You won’t see him in everyone’s roster due to rarity, but if you pull Odin? Upgrade him immediately.
These units aren’t quite as explosive as S+, but they’re incredibly strong, scale well, and slot easily into a variety of team comps.
He’s flashy, reliable, and hits like a truck, especially with the right Highlight. Positioning and mana costs can be a bit clunky, but once you get going, he’s a core DPS in physical-based teams.
She’s free, she dodges like crazy, and she hits hard, especially against shielded enemies. Great choice for burst damage and survivability rolled into one.
He’s everything Hulk wants to be, but better. Solid damage, great crowd control, and a legit frontline presence when paired with ranged DPS.
Surprisingly good synergy. They can act as a quasi-tank while also throwing down AoE stuns and status effects. Great if you want a flexible third unit with staying power.
Beast armor. AoE taunt. Basic attacks that cleave. She does it all, and she survives. If you want a real tank in both PvE and PvP, Armor’s your pick.
A-tier units aren’t bad, far from it. But they often need proper team support, multiple dupes, or Highlight investment to truly shine.
He’s the best buffer in the game, when you need one. Doesn’t always fit in PvE teams that just want raw DPS, but becomes invaluable for PvP and future endgame raids.
Underrated. Not crazy strong on his own, but buffs the team, manipulates turn order, and helps card-based teams feel smoother. Synergizes well with other ranged attackers.
Solid if you invest in him, especially paired with units like Emma Frost. He’s got debuffs, self-healing, and decent AoE. Doesn’t excel at one thing, but does a little of everything well.
Often slept on, but a surprisingly decent utility pick. Gives attack speed, heals in a radius, and dispels debuffs. If you don’t have Dr. Strange or Emma, Moon Knight’s not a bad support slot.
Use these units while you’re figuring things out, but don’t invest too heavily unless you pull multiple dupes or lack better options.
He’s the definition of “good enough” early on. AoE heal, decent ult, easy to upgrade. But long-term? You’ll likely replace him once you get Emma or Dr. Strange.
He looks cool, but gameplay-wise he’s clunky. Sacrifices HP to deal damage and needs high attack speed gear to feel smooth. Not worth the tradeoff early on.
He’s fine if you like barrier mechanics, but nothing he does stands out. Situational utility at best, and outshined by more specialized support or tank units.
Free and functional. Does decent AoE physical damage and can freeze with upgrades. Not bad in early stages, but outclassed quickly by better DPS units.
These characters either lack the stats, synergy, or usefulness to justify long-term investment. If you’re using them, swap them out as soon as possible.
Summons clog the field, and Thread doesn’t offer enough damage or utility to make up for it. Hard pass unless you’re experimenting.
He looks flashy and his animations are cool, but his damage falls off fast unless heavily invested. Easily outclassed by Lady Bullseye or Psylocke.
Want to dominate story mode and events without wasting pulls or resources? Here’s what actually works when putting your team together:
• Start with Balance: A solid frontline (tank or summoner), one healer/support, and one high-damage DPS is your ideal core setup.
• Use What You Get: If you pull a God-tier hero like Scarlet Witch, great, build around her. But if you’re F2P, characters like Sleepwalker, Hulk, Lady Bullseye, and Storm are more than enough to push you deep into the campaign.
• Don’t Ignore Talents and Highlights: These upgrades make a huge difference once you hit level 30+. Leveling is step one, scaling Talents and Highlights is how you stay competitive long-term.
• Think Synergy, Not Just Power: Echo + Psylocke. Emma + Scarlet Witch. Lady Bullseye + any assist-heavy team. The right combo can outperform raw stats alone.
Marvel Mystic Mayhem has one of the better gacha rosters in recent memory, not because it’s super generous, but because a lot of units are actually viable if you know how to use them.
Focus on your S+ and S tier units first.
Use A and B tier characters as bridges, and don’t be afraid to experiment.
The right Highlight, Talent setup, or synergy can elevate an average unit into something special.
Building your dream squad takes time, and sometimes, a little help. Whether you’re unlocking new heroes, topping up for limited-time banners, or speeding up those mid-game upgrades, managing how you spend can make a big difference.
