For March of Empires players and alliance leaders who want the 2026 changes in one place. Checked November 3, 2026.
Short answer: March of Empires got big updates in 2026: Tier-8 units, Castle Level 38 and Era IX in February, Viking Legends with Ragnar and Lagertha in May and June, eight new Commanders and the Eternal rarity on June 29, and the Age of Reprisal era with Conan back in late August.
All versions and dates below come from the official App Store version history. Some notes are short, so only what they state is listed.

What it means for your castle
The year added a new power layer on top of the old one. Commanders arrived as a new unit class in the Viking update, and three later updates added more of them. Eternal gear sits above Divine, so the best march builds now need gear from the top rarity.
Tier-8 units and Castle Level 38 also raise the ceiling for top castles. If you came back after a break, expect the strongest players to be well past where they were in 2025.
For spenders and alliance leaders
- Plan spending around Commanders and Eternal gear, the two systems added in 2026, rather than older Champion upgrades.
- Before pushing Castle Level 38, check the resources and speedups you need for Tier-8 units, so the castle and troops come together.
- Leaders: Ranged and Siege sets came with Age of Reprisal. Agree on which march types your alliance builds before the next war.
