For players building a top Blood Rose account who want every Skill Book, fragment and Gold Bar in Selena to count.
Selena is a Season 1 Blood Rose hero with exclusive equipment: a fifth gear slot most heroes in the game do not have, and one you cannot reach without real investment. If your Selena sits at low stars with basic gear, resources are leaking where they should not.
This guide covers her skill order, gear priority, exclusive equipment and formation placement, for players who have already decided to build her and want the most out of it.
Why Selena is a must-build for Blood Rose
At the alliance leader level, heroes are not judged by how strong they feel in combat this week. They are judged by how much permanent value each star unlocks, and whether that value holds as seasons go on and faction play tightens. Selena passes both tests.
The most reliable Last Z power and progression guides rate Selena S+ tier, in the "max everything" group with Licia. That matters. Most heroes involve trade-offs: third skill first, hold off on gear, wait for more stars before committing fragments. With S+ heroes the trade-off disappears. Every investment in Selena pays back, so the only question is the order, not whether to invest.
Her exclusive equipment is what makes her a priority for big accounts. Last Z Season 1 heroes, including Selena, Katrina, Sophia, Scarlett, Bella, Evelyn and Sakura, get a fifth gear slot that standard heroes do not. At orange rank, this slot boosts second skill damage by 450 to 600 damage factor.
If your main five heroes already have full orange gear with promotions done, exclusive equipment is the next ceiling. If you are still building toward that, it sets the path: build Selena fully on standard gear first, then push into the exclusive slot.
In a Blood Rose formation her job is steady damage across shooter stages and PvP. She is not an infrastructure hero the way Sophia speeds up construction or Katrina makes fuel. She is a combat hero with an extra exclusive upgrade layer that gives big accounts a ceiling lighter accounts cannot reach.
Selena skill order
Skills in Last Z unlock at one star and upgrade in five-level steps. The cost per step is the same across all four skills, which is exactly why spreading Skill Books evenly is wrong. Skills do not give equal value at each level, and Skill Books only come from gameplay, events and packs. Concentrated investment beats spread investment every time.
- Third skill. It gives permanent account-wide passive bonuses, and at higher levels they apply broadly instead of only to Blood Rose troop types. This is the compounding value experienced leaders push early. Max it before putting much into the others.
- Second skill. This is the skill her exclusive equipment boosts. At orange rank the exclusive slot adds 450 to 600 damage factor to it. Putting Skill Books here while you build the exclusive equipment makes both investments worth more, so run them side by side as resources allow.
- Fourth skill. It extends the third skill's reach at higher levels and adds troop-level bonuses. Once the third and second skills are solid, the next Skill Books go here.
- First skill. The basic combat passive, with the lowest return per Skill Book. Finish it last.
Selena gear priority
The gear system in Last Z rewards concentration. Orange gear only. Turn every purple, blue or green piece into Enhancement Alloy right away. No build path on lower rarity is worth it.
As a damage hero, Selena's weapon comes first. On weapon affixes, take Attack Percentage over flat Attack. Her damage scales off skill multipliers, and Attack Percentage raises that output multiplicatively. Given the choice between Attack Percentage and a higher flat Attack, take the percentage.
Enhance to level 20 first, then promote. Promotion is locked until level 20, and trying to skip ahead wastes Power Cores. At level 20 the first promotion step is the best value: big stat gains for 100 Power Cores and one million Zent, much better than later steps. Never skip it on any piece.
Orange gear has five hexagons with six steps each, 30 promotion steps per piece. When Selena is a core investment, finish all five. The fifth hexagon is expensive (12,800 Power Cores and six orange items) and returns less per Power Core than earlier ones. Free and lighter accounts usually stop at hexagon four. Big accounts building Selena as a permanent asset should go to hexagon five.
Mythic transformation raises the max enhancement level from 75 to 100 and roughly doubles gear power. The piece needs at least one completed hexagon first.
This is the last tier of her gear. Transform the weapon first, since for a damage hero it multiplies damage directly, then work through helmet, vest and boots.
Selena's exclusive equipment
- What it does: boosts second skill damage by 450 to 600 damage factor at orange rank, a real increase on top of standard gear.
- How to upgrade it: the same Enhancement Alloy and Power Core system as standard gear. Reach level 20 before promoting, because the first promotion step gives the biggest early gain.
- Priority: treat it as a sixth investment that runs alongside the rest once standard gear is at orange. It stacks on top, it does not replace anything.
The right order: full orange standard gear with promotions under way, then exclusive equipment, then Mythic transformation on standard pieces.
Formation placement and faction synergy
Selena belongs in the back row of a Blood Rose formation. The back row has three slots for damage heroes with attack and damage bonuses. The front row has two slots for defense heroes who absorb contact and protect the back row long enough for damage to build.
Her natural partners are Katrina, Sophia, and whichever season hero is highest in your upgrade plan: Licia at S3, or Bella at S2 if Licia is not built yet. Katrina's fuel passive pays for daily activity and Sophia's construction speed keeps HQ progress on pace. Both stay in the formation long term, so Selena's companions are well defined.
The front row for a top Blood Rose account takes durable Blood Rose defenders. Which defender matters less than making sure both front-row heroes are Blood Rose so the full deployment bonus works.
The faction bonus shapes every formation choice from Season 1. Each Blood Rose hero deployed adds 5% troop attack and 5% troop defense. All five from Blood Rose add 10% troop capacity on top. Mixed formations lose this bonus in every fight.
After Season 1 that loss adds up across PvP events, SvS and Versus Day. Selena works properly inside a full Blood Rose lineup. Running her outside one costs more than most accounts realize.
What five-star Selena gives you
At five stars, Selena's third skill bonuses expand from Blood Rose-specific effects to all troop types. Before five stars, her passive is partly faction-gated. After, it applies broadly: every march, every formation and every fight benefits, whatever the troop mix or event.
Add full orange gear on all five slots, exclusive equipment at orange with promotions done and a built Blood Rose formation around her, and a five-star Selena is the ceiling of a Season 1 Blood Rose investment. Accounts that get there first hold a lead newer accounts can close over time but not match right away. The compounding is real and the timeline matters.
The accounts that star her up at the right speed had Gold Bars ready when the Season 1 hero window opened, built her right away instead of reacting later, and followed one focused upgrade path instead of spreading fragments and Skill Books over lower-priority heroes.
Alliance leader playbook
Check formations before Versus Day and SvS week. If your top Blood Rose members keep Selena at two or three stars while running weaker Season 1 heroes in their active slots, walk them through the math. Her 10% Assaulter damage passive works across every formation on their account, benched or active. One member pushing Selena to four or five stars noticeably improves every Assaulter fight they join, including alliance operations their march contributes to.
Coordinate Blood Rose fragment priorities. If several members are building Selena, decide who speeds up first based on who runs Blood Rose most in competitive events. The member leading your Blood Rose formation in Versus Day pushes should have the highest-star Selena, because her Assaulter bonuses touch every troop that member commits, and through them the alliance's results when Blood Rose is your main faction.
Make the five-star case to your roster. Many members build Selena casually: they get her through the Warrior Battle Pass, push her to two stars and leave her there. Her value grows with each star, and the gap between a two-star and a five-star Selena in a top Assaulter formation is not small. Pushing past four stars toward five should be the standard for any member running Blood Rose as their main faction.
Is Selena worth it in a full Blood Rose formation?
Selena is not an add-on to a full Blood Rose formation. She is its core. A Blood Rose formation without a high-star Selena leaves the faction's main Assaulter multiplier underbuilt, and her army-wide damage passive lifts every other Blood Rose hero and every Assaulter troop at once.
The strongest Blood Rose formations in SvS and Versus Day run Selena at five stars with full orange gear and exclusive equipment under way. For big accounts the question is not whether she belongs in the lineup. It is how far behind her build is, and how fast you can fix it.
