Finance & Systems Lead | Back Office
Build the financial backbone that lets Packsify scale. Own P&L, cash, reconciliation, and controls, and co‑lead the back office with our Payments & Risk Lead.
Packsify.com is on a mission to help elite mobile gamers ("whales") play smarter, spend safer, and get more from the games they love.
At Packsify.com, we don't just hire to fill seats; we hire for impact. If you're exceptional at what you do and align with our core values, Extraordinary Team, Empowered Ownership, The Focused Path, and Relentless Drive, we want to know you.
We're hiring a Finance & Systems Lead to build the financial core of our back office and co‑lead the function with our Payments & Risk Lead (already hired).
Role
This role is about building the finance and systems foundation that lets Packsify scale from where we are today to 3-5x revenue without breaking.
You will co‑lead Back Office together with our Payments & Risk Lead:
- They own payments and risk: processors, T+1 reconciliation, disputes, declines, daily payment health.
- You own finance and systems: P&L integrity, cash & liabilities, forecasting, controls, close, and the data model that ties it all together.
This is a player‑coach role. You’ll work hands‑on in the first months to understand reality, build systems, and then shape those into routines others can run day‑to‑day. Over time, you shift more into optimisation and planning as the systems and team mature.
If you’ve owned P&L, cash, and close in a startup or small company, enjoy building models and processes from scratch, and like working side‑by‑side with operators, this is your seat.
Responsibilities
Finance Operations & Control
- Own the structure and quality of our P&L, balance sheet, and cash view.
- Design and maintain daily/weekly reconciliation logic across processors, bank accounts, and the app (together with the Payments & Risk Lead).
- Build and maintain a 13‑week cash forecast that leadership can actually use for spend and hiring decisions.
- Separate customer funds (credits/deferred revenue) from company cash, ensure liabilities and revenue recognition are correct.
- Standardise and shorten month‑end close with clear checklists, clean accruals, and audit‑ready documentation.
- Create simple, reliable dashboards for: cash position, margin by game, and key back‑office KPIs.
Systems & Data
- Define the “money map” and single source of truth for financial data (what lives where and how it connects).
- Work with product/IT to specify what we need from Stripe/Revolut/app/Xero to make recon and reporting work reliably.
- Translate business needs (e.g. “we need to see margin by game”) into simple Sheets/Xero/BI solutions.
- Set up basic “spend rails”: budget rules tied to forecast and payback.
Risk & Scenario Planning
- Model the impact of COGS changes (e.g. gift card price swings) on margin and cash, and propose actions when thresholds are hit.
- Build simple scenarios (best/base/worst) for key levers and help leadership make decisions with numbers, not vibes.
- Support compliance and ToS considerations on the finance side (publisher, processor rules) together with Payments & Risk.
Team & Co‑Leadership
- Co‑lead Back Office with the Payments & Risk Lead: shared planning, clear split of ownership, joint problem‑solving.
- Work closely with the team and train to handle more of the routine finance work over time.
- Collaborate with Growth, Support, and IT to make sure financial reality is understood and built into their decisions.
- Help define when and who we hire next into Back Office as the systems stabilise.
Results
We’ll know you’re winning when:
- Every dollar is traceable: daily/weekly reconciliations are reliable and exceptions are small and understood.
- Cash is clear: we have a 13‑week view that’s accurate enough to make confident spend and hiring decisions.
- P&L is trustworthy: revenue, COGS, credits, and liabilities are structured correctly; surprises are rare and explained.
- Risk is controlled: we understand how COGS, fees, and volume changes hit profitability and can act early.
- Back office is co‑led, not founder‑led: you and the Payments & Risk Lead run the function; Sara and others handle the daily routines without founder babysitting.
Requirements
Must‑haves:
- Minimum 4 years experience in finance operations, controllership, FP&A, or similar.
- Hands‑on ownership of P&L, cash, and month‑end close in a startup or small/mid‑size company (not only big corporate).
- Experience building forecast models and cash views that others actually use to run the business.
- Comfortable working with accounting tools (Xero, QuickBooks or similar) and connecting them to real‑world operations.
- Proven ability to design reconciliation and reporting processes starting from messy data.
- Strong systems thinking: you’ve built reporting or finance processes from scratch and handed them off successfully.
- Startup experience (fast pace, less structure, more ownership).
- Player‑coach mindset: willing to do the work yourself at first and then shape it into a system the team can run.
Nice to have:
- Exposure to payments/payment ops (Stripe, Revolut, fintech or gaming)
- Experience with deferred revenue, stored value, or credit‑like products
- Basic SQL/data skills or comfort working closely with analysts/engineers on data models
- Experience co‑leading or partnering closely with an ops or payments counterpart
Packsify is not for everyone
Not a fit if:
- You only want part‑time, consulting, or short‑term project work.
- You prefer staying at the analysis/PowerPoint level and avoid touching actual data or processes.
- You’ve only worked in very large, highly structured environments and don’t want startup ambiguity.
- You want to manage a big team right away instead of building the function and team step by step.
Is a fit if:
- You want one main company to build with, not a portfolio of clients.
- You’ve built finance/operations systems from scratch that people still use after you left.
- You like working side‑by‑side with an ops/payments partner to solve real problems.
- You care more about building something that works than about having a big title on day one.
- You want real ownership: co‑lead back office now, and grow into Head of Finance & Operations as Packsify scales.
Location & compensation
- Remote, global, any timezone (must be comfortable working with a distributed team).
- Base salary: $30-45K USD annually, plus performance bonus.
- Employment: Full‑time, high‑impact, high‑ownership.
- Growth path: Build the finance backbone (Year 1), help hire and lead a small back‑office team (Year 2), expand into broader Head of Finance & Operations as Packsify grows.
